Bingo wings begone

March 31st, 2011
Not a day goes by at L’Onglex HQ without our eye being caught by the latest ‘must have’ beauty cream which promises virtually impossible results for quite a lot of money !
Being the sort we are these miracle creams seem to get us every time and having tried everything from cellulite busting bum creams to the lotions that promise a face lift we are getting quite excited by todays discovery – Arm Sculpt.
Promising to banish bingo wings and perfectly sculpt the arms without the slightest change in diet or any need for exersise, Arm Sculpt claims to break down the fat cells, smooth skin and improve tone and elastcicity !
Without having tried the miricle cream perhaps you may forgive our cynicism but if it does prove to be as successful as the back of pack would lead us to believe then don’t expect to see this stuff on shelves for long.
With bikini season fast approching and constant images of lithe, sensual arms being fed to us in the glossies perfect arms will certainly be on our list of things to do. Although we suspect that a few hours in the gym might yield better results, €59 would be a small price to pay if this works ?

They don’t look any bigger- but they are kind of shiny !!

They don’t look any bigger- but they are kind of shiny !!
When it comes to our skincare routine L’Onglex ers on the side of vigilance.
Cleanser, toning, serums, moisturisers and the odd exfoliation are just some of the obsessions that keep the queue at our bathroom door.  Yet the other day whilst trying not to get the contents of a face mask all over our mobile we came across a chance discovery.
Seems that what we can see is all well and good but are we taking enough care of our assets ? Seems on that front we probably don’t deserve as many gold stars as we first thought.
Since the idea of the dreaded turkey neck isn’t really one we find appealing the thought suddenly hit us that we wouldn’t be firm forever and having spotted a friends stash we thought we’d trial some over the next few weeks.
First up is Boob Tube and although we’ve only been slathering the stuff on for a week or so we think it’s not too bad. Avacado oil, shea butter and milk thistle leave skin feeling quite dewy and youthful and all in all L’Onglex’s boobs have taken on quite a dewy appearance.
Quite whether the long term benefits will befit the expense we are not yet sure but so far so good !

Now hands that do dishes really can be soft as soft as your face

Now hands that do dishes really can be soft as soft as your face!
If you’ve ever had the sinking feeling that doing the washing up is something of a drag for your hands news reaches the L’Onglex beauty desk that the folks at Fairy have had something of a Eureka moment.
Yup, after years of telling us that our hands can be as soft as our face they’ve had something of a Eureka moment and henceforth will be producing a version with the skin softening benefits of Olay.
Having surveyed the kitchen sink habits of no less than 3000 of us they discovered that a dish or two here or there can age our hands by as much as 7 whole years and in a response to questioning 51% of those surveyed expressed the opinion that they were conscious of the appearance of our hands.
In the age of equality we’re not sure whether any men took part in the survey ( we are sure they did !! ) but if the figures are true then we predict the new formulas of Aloe & Cucumber, Silk & Orchid, Almond and Peach & Mandarin will be a raging success. Erin O’Connor to be the face of a 50’s themed campaign.
Although washing the dishes doesn’t quite sit well with our absolute devotion to not chipping our nails we do at least like the idea of teaming beauty and household chores. Should the concept prove to be a success we eagerly await the invention of an oven cleaner that doubles as an exfoliator and the Hoover that blow dries our hair !

Mary make and do: Lavender body wrap

February 28th, 2011
Having watched the oscars ceremony last night L’Onglex is currently feeling more than a little bleary eyed and more than a little green with envy. Pick of the bunch for us has to be Anne Hathaway who looked stunning in that red gown and lipstick combo and having missed our Z’s and woken bleary eyed after a few hours sleep our dreams of radiant Hollywood skin have turned to dust and what we are left with is a decidedly turgid constitution !
As we won’t be making our own acceptance speech in the near future this doesn’t matter too much but we are at the very least a little concerned about getting in shape for spring. In preference to a salon splurge we’ve been casting around for a Monday Mary Make and Do recipe that might help pick us up and not scare passing motorists when we do at last ‘dare to bare’. For our Hollywood style herbal body wrap you will need the following  …
A hot room !
A plastic sheet
3 old but very soft bath towels
1 large basin
1 cup of dried lavender
1 garden recliner ( plastic )
Here’s how it’s done ….
Lay the plastic sheet down on the floor and place the recliner over the sheet. Next, take 2 towels and place them in basin of hot water and add the dried lavender to the mix and allow this to soak for ten minutes. While the lavender is soaking, take a hot shower which will soften up your skin and allow the pores to open for the wrap. Once the towels have soaked wring the excess water from the towels and wrap one towel on your top half and the other on your bottom half. Recline for fifteen minutes and allow the mixture to seep into your skin. Once the time is up pat dry with a clean dry towel and moisturise all over.
So far so good. Yes, this does smell a bit ‘lavendery’ but the results are staggering ! More Mary Make and Do’s coming soon.

Is your face worth €155,000 !

February 25th, 2011
How your face is worth  whopping €155,000 !
Hair, body, make-up …. it all adds up as you probably know, but when we came across a recent survey commissioned by QVC in the UK we nearly fell over.
Seems that by the time we add up the trips to the salon, the treats at the beauty counter and the odd spa visit the bill we’re presented with over the course of our lifetime is a staggering €155,000.
Although we did dismiss the figure out of hand, with the use of some old credit card statements and an abacus L’Onglex can safely say that in our case the figure might not be too wide of the mark.
Now that we’ve accepted the fact that what we spend on cosmetics could by us a house, a Bentley convertible or a rather large wardrobe full of Louboutin’s we are seriously looking at ways to cut down …. but how. I mean it’s all very well being frugal but where exactly would we cut our budget.
Having emptied our beauty bags and sought to cut down several times we’re just going to have to accept that looking our best is an investment in itself ….. I wonder if it would be possible to get a mortgage on our looks …. probably not !

Mary Make and Do – the papaya facial

December 30th, 2010
A few too many chocolate Roses, a few too many mince pies and five days spent beside the fire has left L’Onglex’s skin with about as much life as last Saturdays turkey !
As nice as it is to stuff ourselves even we will admit that it doesn’t really do a whole lot for the complexion and whilst it may not be quite the time to ditch the party foods and grab the fruit, we did at the very least come across a skin boosting recipe that will see us right for the new year.
As with any skin dilemma a homemade concoction is always more frugal than a store bought remedy and so our latest Mary Make and Do is a homemade facemask which helps retain moisture, cleanse skin and fight the pimples that invariably follow five days of stuffing ourselves silly.
You will need …..
Half a cup of unripe diced Papaya
1 tablespoon of plain Yogurt.
1 teaspoon of Honey.
So ….
Blend all of the ingredients into a food processor until a smooth paste is formed. Place the mix in a bowl and leave to chill for fifteen minutes. Once the mixture has cooled apply in liberal quantities to the face and neck and allow to seep into the skin for about ten minutes. Rinse skin gently with warm water and eh voila, your mask is done.
Although this is a pretty good pick-me-up for skin we think we should add a small note of caution. As yogurt contains lactic acid and live cultures if you suffer from very sensitive skin or feel a burning or stinging rather than tingling sensation wash the mix off immediately before it sits too long on the skin.

Celebrity beauty fad alert

December 6th, 2010
Ever wonder what happens when you leave your face cream out for the best part of two and a half thousand years …. Egyptian Magic of course.
Not sure where this came from or how this one has surfaced but the latest cream said to be doing the rounds amongst the world of A list celebrities is none other than a cream based on a formula from over two and a half thousand years ago.
Said to have been used since ancient times Egyptian Magic is a mix of olive oil, beeswax, honey, royal jelly and pollen is now more likely to be found on celebs like Kate Hudson, Madonna and Emily Blunt than on  Egyptian queens who were said to swear by the remedy.
At £32.99 from revital.co.uk you don’t need to have a regal budget to pick up some and as the natural ingredients help to minimise scars, burns, stretch marks and combat against signs of ageing we figure we might put a pot on the Christmas wish list just for the fun of it.
Whether this latest celebrity beauty fad will mean a revival in other ancient beauty remedies remains to be seen, but if this catches on we can expect to see a raft of milk baths (Cleopatra), poultices made of dogs toes ( to cure male baldness ) or body butter made from cats fat ( lice removal ) to be coming to a beauty counter near you !

Mary Make-and-Do … the quick skin pick-me-up !

November 5th, 2010
Mary Make-and-Do … the quick skin pick-me-up !
Seems like ages since we did a Mary Make and Do on the blog and with the cold weather bringing the chill factor to skin we thought we might find something homemade to bring our somewhat pallid winter complexion back to life.
Where we picked this up from we cannot quite say but as cracked lips, dry skin and chapped cheeks magically disappear we think it’s something of a keeper and since all you need to make  this is baking soda and natural yoghurt it’s as easy as pie.
So ….
Add 1 tablespoon of Yogurt to 1 teaspoon of Baking Soda
Mix together well
Apply to the face as you would a facemask
Leave for two minutes
Massage gently into the face
Rinse with warm water …. and you’re done.
Simple, quick, natural and a perfect-pick-me-up dry winter skin. You can do this anywhere but we think it’s best applied during the ad-breaks for X-Factor … more Mary Make and Do’s coming soon !

Things we loved this week – Dr Nick Lowe’s Instant Face Lift

Things we loved this week – Dr Nick Lowes Face Serum
Seeing as we’re the squeamish sort here at L’Onglex HQ anything that promises to keep our complexions looking young and beautiful that doesn’t involve physical discomfort, the breaking of skin or the for that matter the breaking of our bank balance has to be worth a mention.
Enter the latest instant skin pick me up to set tongues wagging which goes by the name of ‘The Secret is out Instant face lift’ and is by none other than the people at Doctor Nick Lowe. Promising to plump, tighten and tone with two handy pumps the serum was created by the UK’s leading dermatologists and is pretty much for use everywhere although to be fair at €36.99 you’ll want to keep it to the face and let the body go to pot.
Having feasted our eyes on the stuff and at long last got some L’Onglex has been quite impressed with the results of our very unscientific and quite haphazard testing. When it comes to the science bit we’re not quite sure of the goodies inside but as soon as we realised it was made by a Doctor we simply stopped caring and instead began a trip down memory lane with thoughts of George Clooney in the glory days of ER.
On the plus it leaves skin quite tight and tingly and although we’re not quite clear of fine lines just yet we will at the very least keep it as a booster for skin that’s suffering from the excesses of the night before. With the Christmas party season just around the bend we think we’ll be keeping this one quite close.

L’Onglex is on a diet of sorts

September 29th, 2010
It’s been a while since we at L’Onglex have said Yes to anything healthy…..what with the summer being over and the evenings getting shorter we have been drowning our sorrows portions of CCC* washed down with the mouthwatering delights of a tub of B&J’s.
Just as our skin has begun to tell us our diet excesses are about to lay waste to our complexion a very strange thing happened in the form of Totally Tranquil Facial Hydrating Lotion landing with a flourish on the L’Onglex beauty desk.
Made by none other than Yes to Tomatoes and packed with the hydrating power of 26 different Dead Sea minerals, organic tomatoes, rosemary and watermelon – the lotion is a powerful antioxidant and works a treat at soaking up the damage of an overactive sebum thus clearing skin and keeping pesky spots at bay.
Perfect for oily and combination skin, the goodies smell delicious and the thick formula does a nice job of keeping skin hydrated. To think there was us staring deeply into the window of our fast food souls and telling ourselves we’d have to change our nasty diets to get healthy skin !
CCC* – curry chips and cheese.
