New bronzer alert

April 1st, 2011
TITLE : Bronzer alert
Now that bronzing season is almost upon us we at L’Onglex have been pondering which products to invest in for our Spring/Summer make-up bags.
Naturally the old reliables like Sun Shimmer and Sally Hansen Air Brush Legs are as we speak winging their way from the back of the beauty cupboard, but when it comes to bronzing on the face we thought we might try something a bit lighter this season.
Enter Soap & Glory’s Solar Powder which as you may or may not know features four different shades or bronze. The light, sandy shades are perfect for adding subtle highlighting as well as some soft, sun-kissed contours and as the main danger with bronzer always seems to be that we overdo it this one didn’t leave us looking like we had just turned up for auditions in The Only Way As Essex !
As the the mix also includes a mirror and soft bristled brush, should you find yourself feeling a bit pasty on the hop this is perfect for topping up. Conclusion …. didn’t cake, didn’t make us look like an Umpa-Lumpa and didn’t leave smears on the collar of L’Onglex’s new white work blouse…. can we ask for any more than that ?

Things we love this week – pot rouge by bobbi brown

Things we love this week – pot rouge by bobbi brown
OK we know it’s only Monday so to call this post ‘Things we loved this week’ might be a little premature … I mean we don’t actually know what’s going to happen for the days Tuesday to Friday and we’re kind of hoping some handsome and mysterious benefactor may gift us a box full of Creme de la Mer sometime on Thursday morning but for the moment, assuming a miracle doesn’t happen, Pot Rouge by Bobbi Brown is the thing we’re loving thus far.
The reason for this is quite simple. February is a difficult time on the slap front if you happen to be fair skinned. Bronzer can be gotten  away with from April onwards but if you need something to take away a pallid constitution it has to be a bit of blush. Of course it’s all very well having a bit of blush but on the subject of blush – how much is too much and what can you get away with on a grey day February?
The answer is not much but having finally dipped our toe in the water on this we can see why it’s such a cult product. Simply, a light dab is all it takes for something subtle and although it looks pretty red in the pot the texture is super natural on the skin once it goes on. As we’ve developed something of a love hate relationship with Benefit Coralista ( especially the box !) we’re now on the verge of going over to Bobbi for good.
If the rather ungainly €26.50 that you have to pay for a pot of Pot Rouge is something of a turn-off, please note that this also works quite well as a lip stain and as such any guilt you may be left with after buying can be neatly wrapped up in a package that says ‘Multi-Buy’ and firmly ticked off in a housekeeping column that says ‘Frugal Beauty Buys’ ….. sort of !!

body shop rocks

February 10th, 2011
We do love a good collaboration here at L’Onglex HQ so when we got wind of the latest launch from The Body Shop we just thought it might be good of us to share the deets !
Quite possibly ( actually … no definitely ) the brightest collection we’ve come across this spring, the limited edition ‘Brush With Fashion’ collection has been created in collaboration with the internationally acclaimed London College of Fashion and the result is the new range wrapped up in a whimsically bright collection of packaging.
Brimming with handbag friendly products the collection includes an a Illuminating Face Base, Hi-Shine Lip Treatment , Tailored Cheek Tint , Super Volume Mascara as well as portable palettes for the eyes. Although pretty, L’Onglex is also assured that this isn’t just a case of a pretty product in pretty packaging but as the sets come with the added bonus of individual brushes for each product topping up on the go is a breeze and you’ll never get your pinks mixed with your blues.
The collection hits counters at the beginning of the month and as we’ve already got our eye on at least one of the palettes we can pretty much guarantee we’ll be sporting something bright for spring and summer.

Things we loved this week: MAC WonderWoman

January 14th, 2011
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YVLJcBsD__E
It’s kitsch, it’s camp, it’s colourful and we’re loving it. Set for release in March 2011 the above pictures are from MAC’s new WonderWoman range and L’Onglex can’t wait to get every single item for our collection.
If you are not sure what the fuss is about the launch in question is based on the comic series superhero which was turned into a TV series which ran between 1975-1979. WonderWoman herself was the first real female superhero who developed her crime fighting skills with the help of various badly made items of costume jewelry.
Helped by along by the special powers given to her by a magic belt, her ability to deflect bullets using her wristbands and the ability to make men tell the truth with the use of a magic lasso, the series became a instant phenomenon and propelled Lynda Carter to worldwide fame.
Why Mac has chosen to take the range as it’s inspiration we are not quite sure but if it gives us even a smidgen of her powers we’ll be more than pleased with the outlay. Lets face it, who isn’t loving that gold make-up bag – click here here’s to see the 70’s TV show in all its glory !

Things we loved this week: Hocus Focus Illuminator

Things we loved this week: Hocus Pocus Illuminator
As L’Onglex is getting all Christmasy at the moment there are probably a hundred things that we are currently going gaga for. Whilst the glittery stuff usually manages to grab all the headlines at this time of year it would have been easy to do something with a bit of sparkle, wish you all a merry Christmas and cheerfully take our leave.
That was until we started looking for something to add to the routine that would give our complexion a bit of a lift without the need for bronze or glitter and do you think we could find anything ? No.
Having trawled and trawled and searched and searched we were getting quite hot under the collar until someone in these parts suggested an illuminator. In fact, the suggestion was Hocus Pocus by Soap and Glory.
So, if you haven’t come across this we think you might want to. As you can wear it under foundation for a base or over your foundation to work as a highlighter it’s a pretty good addition to the winter routine and although there are pearls in the mixture it does diffuse the light so that the highlighting seems quite natural with lighter skin tones – result !

Whilst the glittery stuff usually manages to grab all the headlines at this time of year it would have been easy to do something with a bit of sparkle, wish you all a merry Christmas and cheerfully take our leave.

That  was what we were going to do until early this week we started looking for something to add to the routine that would give our complexion a bit of a lift without the need for bronze or glitter. Do you think we could find anything ? No.

Having trawled and trawled and searched and searched we were all getting quite hot under the collar until someone in these parts suggested using an illuminator. Quite why we didn’t think of this ourselves is a moot point and in actual fact the suggestion was quite specific – Hocus Focus by Soap and Glory.

So, if you haven’t come across this we think you might want to. As you can wear it under foundation for a base or over your foundation to work as a highlighter it’s a pretty good addition to the winter routine and although there are pearls in the mixture it does diffuse the light so that the end result seems quite natural, especially if you’ve got a lighter skin tone – all we have do to now is ask Santa if it’s not too late to get a bottle thrown into our Christmas stocking !

The benefits of … er … benefit

October 18th, 2010
Perfect for the more indecisive among you the latest powder release from Benefit makes it possible to ditch the awkward decisions about what to buy and just head straight for the good stuff.
Teaming three of their best selling face powders into one handy compact Powder Time Lover is perfect if you like your compact to mix it up a little. With a quick dab you can rouge it up with a blush of Coralista, give cheeks a healthy autumn glow with Dallas and brighten dull skin with the Dandelion face highlighter.
Fast becoming our favourite thing ‘in the world ever’ the pallet is totally adaptable for all skin tones and although the free brush isn’t quite all we could have hoped for we’ve been making the most of the last opportunity to have a touch of summer glow by highlighting with Dandelion.
At €37.50 it might be on the expensive side if your beauty bag budget is a more bacon and spuds than champagne and caviar but seeing as you get three powders in one we don’t really  begrudge the price tag too much !

L’Onglex loves the new McMAC !

MAC_tartan_range

Think of Tartan and you’ll think of Scotland. Think of Scotland and you’ll think of kilts, Groundskeeper Willie and deep fried Mars bars. Think of …… anyway, you get the picture.

The above picture is a small selection of MAC’s brand new Tartan Tale range and if you’re looking for an opportunity to decorate the dressing table we think this might be the perfect excuse.

The huge selection of lipsticks, glosses, shadows and even teddy bears will be available from November with profits from the Viva Glam make-up bag going to MAC Aids Fund.

Although we can assure you this will change, L’Onglex currently have our greedy eyes on the checked face powders which come with a rather fetching tartan flock print. How exactly they manage to get the pattern in the compact to go all the way through ( three cheers for no over-spraying ) is currently causing us some head scratching…. We love MAC !

Is it too early for Christmas ?

September 22nd, 2010
Is it too early for Christmas ?
Ok so it maybe nowhere near Christmas yet but L’onglex can’t help it if we were slightly taken aback with the festive collection that has just come our way courtesy of Clarins !
Pots of gold dusting powder, a beautiful shimmery gold eyeshadow and blood red lips all feature in the Barocco collection and if Clarins is your bag it hits counters on the 1st of October thereby giving us plenty of time to get our seductive pout in order for the L’Onglex office party.
Being the sort of shallow folks we are the first thing we noticed about the new colloection is the packaging and although we’re rather ashamed to give the delightfully embossed compacts and elegant gold baroque designs too much prominence in one post we can’t help but be impressed by the magpie gorgeousness of it all.
Having now played with the collection for the best part of a week we can sincerely state that although we think the shimmery gold powder is a bit much we are finding the face palette too covetable for comfort and the lipstick decidedly delicious.
Finally, friends of L’Onglex accustomed to receiving Clarins in their Christmas stockings will not be too surprised to discover we have decided to keep this years collection for ourselves. Naturally we understand this aint particularly christmassy but in this particular case we figure you cant put an exact price on friendship …. or can we ?

Autumn treats at The Body shop

September 13th, 2010

You can say what you will about the cold damp air and the long dark evenings but at least we get a raft of new products to try. Blowing into L’onglex Towers on a wind of irrational Body Shop addiction comes Chestnut Face and Cheek Powder which we must say isn’t too bad.

If you’re are a beauty junky who likes to multi task, the compact combines four pressed powders of gold, brown, bronze and copper that work just as well on eyes as they do on face.

images

On the powder front this is quite soft so if you tend to press heavy this won’t last forever but if you’re the sort to dip in and out or flit about with compacts we thinks this might be a decent staging post between winter wear and your summer bronzer – this we love !

Ideal for beauty junkies who like their products to multi task, the compact combines four pressed powders of gold, brown, bronze and copper that are just as perfect for eyes as they are for face.
Super soft with a light shimmer finish the compact is the perfect replacement for your summer bronzer and will have you dreaming of crisp country walks to crush the leaves in no time! – this we love!

Estee Lauder Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign

August 23rd, 2010
Estee Lauder Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign
Seems the good folks at Estee Lauder have decided to touch on a subject close to our hearts and have developed a campaign which will see profits on the sales of many of this years lines go toward the  Cancer Clinical Research Trust at St Vincents.
Naturally this means we will have to go out and purchase all the goodies we can get our hands on and it is nice that L’Onglex will be able to help fight breast cancer while at the same time getting hold of some gorgeous goodies.
Brands taking part include Aveda, Bobbi Brown, Clinique, Creme de la Mer, Donna Karen Cosmetics, Darphin, Origins and of course Estee Lauder.
Our pick has to be the pink Shimmer Brick by Bobbi Brown since €42 will get you five bars of pinky iridescent goodness and all net proceeds on compacts sold during October will go to a very worthy cause. L’Onglex is impressed !
