Who loves Adele ?

February 23rd, 2011
ho loves fish face ?
Now that we’re officially over the hump we’ve been looking for a little Saturday night make-up inspiration and after figuring we rather liked the look of Adele at the Brit awards a little hunting online for her look led us to Lauren Luke’s latest celebrity ‘how to’
Thinking will be just perfect for our weekend out Lauren demonstrates how to nail that perfectly smokey bronzed look by some simple blending techniques for the eyes and a highlighting technique which the geordie princess of powder calls ‘fish face’. On reflection this might not sound too pretty, but the end result is nicely contoured cheeks.
Rimmel, Benefit and MAC are all in the mix and as with all things Lauren Luke ( http://www.bylaurenluke.com/default.aspx ), the video is just so easy to follow – we love this look !

be afraid … be very afraid

February 1st, 2011
Rather than being a dream job, we think it must be hard being a model. Yup – as good as earning shed loads of cash for doing nothing more than getting out of bed, flying off to Milan and wearing ridiculously tiny clothes must be, it is rather a fickle industry with a limited shelf life and a stack of younger, prettier, more ambitious semi-starved waifs always willing to knock you off your perch.
As if the above scenario weren’t bad enough, the above picture must be terrifying to any girl who currently makes her living on the catwalks as not only is Andrej Picic tall, skinny and with cheekbones to die for, he also just happens to be … well … a he !
Quite how 19 year old Andrej became the darling of the catwalk is quite easy to understand when you see him wearing the above dress for a recent Gaultier haute couture show but we are also led to believe he looks just as good when dressed as a man.
As well as being a threat to female models everywhere this might be a step too far for us as well. Yes, we agree with equality and diversity, yes, we all love a pretty bloke but do Marc Jacobs, Vogue and Gualtier really think we feel better for seeing this ?
It’s bad enough that every time we open a magazine there are legions of gorgeous and impossibly thin women staring us in the face, but featuring a bloke who is thinner, prettier and walks better in heels is just a step too far and rubs salt into the wounds !

Celebrity beauty fad alert

December 6th, 2010
Ever wonder what happens when you leave your face cream out for the best part of two and a half thousand years …. Egyptian Magic of course.
Not sure where this came from or how this one has surfaced but the latest cream said to be doing the rounds amongst the world of A list celebrities is none other than a cream based on a formula from over two and a half thousand years ago.
Said to have been used since ancient times Egyptian Magic is a mix of olive oil, beeswax, honey, royal jelly and pollen is now more likely to be found on celebs like Kate Hudson, Madonna and Emily Blunt than on  Egyptian queens who were said to swear by the remedy.
At £32.99 from revital.co.uk you don’t need to have a regal budget to pick up some and as the natural ingredients help to minimise scars, burns, stretch marks and combat against signs of ageing we figure we might put a pot on the Christmas wish list just for the fun of it.
Whether this latest celebrity beauty fad will mean a revival in other ancient beauty remedies remains to be seen, but if this catches on we can expect to see a raft of milk baths (Cleopatra), poultices made of dogs toes ( to cure male baldness ) or body butter made from cats fat ( lice removal ) to be coming to a beauty counter near you !

Is that a copper codpiece or are you just pleased to see me ?

December 1st, 2010
New Pirelli Calender gets it’s first men ….
Is that a copper codpiece or are you just pleased to see me ?
As Christmas calenders hit the shelves we think it might be well worth our time to take a peek at this years Pirelli.
Famed for their use of world famous models the calendar has increasingly gone from something you’d find above the dart boards in the office of your local garage to something you’d find in at the V&A.
With the theme being greek mythology goddesses ( and now gods ) abound. Included this year are is 50 year old actress Julianne Moore, and Dutch model Lara Stone who is the wife of Little Britain star David Wiiliams.
Curated by Karl Lagerfeld this years pictures were taken in Paris and as well as having a bevy of the sort one would expect from the Pirelli Calendar this years shots also feature male models for the first time. Pictured above is frequent Lagerfeld muse Baptiste Giacobini in what appears to be a cast copper codpiece and although we rather like the fact the his blushes are spared no one could save model Erin Wasson.
At the Moscow launch of the calender that is so famous it’s simply referred to as ‘The Cal’, the American model and face of Maybelline insisted that this years Pirelli was “Less like a calendar and more like a form of art”. Quite how she deduced that is anyones guess. Perhaps the men sight of scanty men has gone to her head !

Katy Perry to launch nail polish line

November 30th, 2010
Katy Perry to launch nail polish line
Yup. As collaborations go it was only a matter of time before the nail art diva launched her own collection and news reaches the L’Onglex beauty desk that she has done just that !
Launched as a collaboration with OPI the four shades include – Teenage Dream (pink glitter), Not Like the Movies ( silver ), Last Friday Night ( blue glitter) and The One That Got Away (deep berry). Also included in the collection is a new cracked topcoat that creates a glazed pattern when applied over dry polish.
Famed for her wacky dress sense and her abilities to tame even the most dedicated lothario Katy often uses red carpet events to show off her crazy nail designs and as well as a host of weird colours, lace overlays and general mayhem she once used her nails as a symbol of affection and devotion for the her beau. Quite why OPI hasn’t launched a range based on her famous Russell Brand tribute nails is anyones guess !!!

L’Onglex Poll – is Beyonce’s new advert too much?

November 26th, 2010
Seems the new ad for Heat by Beyonce is causing something of a stir for those over in the UK. Recently deemed too “sexually provocative” and “unsuitable for young children” by the Advertising Standards Agency they’ve banned the ad being broadcast before 7:30pm.
L’Onglex has been jabbering about this all morning and in the end we decided to put the subject to a vote. Aside from the fact that banning the advert will make every ten year old want to watch it on  YouTube we figure we’d let you decide.
So, vote in the box, leave a comment here and as always we’ll pick one name out of the hat for a goodie bag … oh, and if you haven’t seen the video here’s the link.

Ever wondered what Robbie Williams smells like ?

November 25th, 2010
It’s nice to know that once a celebrity reaches a certain age he’s not necessarily considered to be past it. Good news for Robbie Williams who despite recently admitting in an interview that he was suffering from the early onset of a mid-life male crisis, those whose job it is to know about these matters still think he’s sexy enough to be able to flog us tat that we don’t really need.
Yup, shameless-gap-in-the-market-spotting-fan-site robbiewilliams.com have recently launched a range of candles in tribute to the songs of the man himself which our sources tell us have been inspired by Robbie’s greatest hits. Although we don’t suggest that Robbie Williams has endorsed these wonderful scented delights in any way the fact that they are on sale must come as a massive comfort to the sexual ego to the 36 year old popstar.
Having only seen the pictures for these we can’t tell you if they do in fact smell as good as robbie looks but we figure if you ever wanted to get a sniff of the man himself this would be the closest thing. L’Onglex’s favourite so far is the one called ‘Lovelight’, a candle with scents of wild fig, cassis and orange blossom to provide you with sensual stimulation … could it be magic ?

Lady Gaga to launch fragrance

November 17th, 2010
Newflash – Lady Gaga to launch perfume
When it comes to celebrity scents it seems that time waits for no man.
Not content with selling 13 million albums, 52 million singles and picking up the most nominations in the history of the MTV awards it seems that Lady Gaga has enough spare time on her hands to devise her very own brand of perfume.
News reaches the L’Onglex beauty desk that the as yet to be named scent is due to launch in Spring 2012 and is to be an extension of her combined talent for music, video, fashion, art modesty and selling us things we don’t really need.
Joining a long list of celebrity luminaries like Alex Curran ( Alex ) and Cliff Richard ( Devil Woman ) to have launched their own perfume L’Onglex has no idea of how this one will actually smell or how much she was paid but we figure that as long as the aroma is nothing like that meat dress we might just be dipping into the piggybank to buy a bottle !

Our poll results are in and a winner is out of the hat !

November 5th, 2010

Despite being deemed “sexually provocative” and “unsuitable for young children” by the UK Advertising Standards Agency it seems that most of us on the L’Onglex blog are a pretty broad minded bunch !

Yup. Seems Beyonce’s new advert for her Heat perfume range has ruffled very few feathers with the results of our poll finding that 86% of you thought that the video was either perfectly OK or only slightly worrying due to the fact that she appears to be setting fire to her own house.

Thanks to all who voiced their opinions and especially Noelle ( comment 16 ) whose name came out of the big virtual hat and wins a L’Onglex goodie bag – more polls soon …. possibly with a Christmas theme !

peek-a-choo

November 2nd, 2010
Reports flying round the blogosphere that none other than Jimmy Choo is to release a perfume have finally proved to be true.
Although we heard the rumour some time ago the fantastically fabulous shoemaker had remained rather tight lipped about the launch and sneak peeks ( never mind sneak smells ) of the new Choo fragrance have been few and far between.
Set for release from selected Jimmy Choo boutiques on January 31st 2011 L’Onglex’s sources tell us that the scent is rich, woody and sensual rather than floral or feminine.
As we’ve managed to get a picture ( but not the bottle !) we aren’t quite sure how it all pans out just yet and we although we are quite upset at not being able to buy a bottle for Christmas we are at least pleased that the hangover that is January will at least have some light at the end of the tunnel.
L’Onglex predicts H&M style queues around the block for this one, especially as the scent is more Sam than Charlotte !
