Christmas make-up … pink over orange ???

December 7th, 2010
Not sure if we should say this but we’re going to anyway. Just this afternoon L’Onglex got wind that Lisa Eldridges new Christmas looks video was now online.
Thinking we were getting a taste of the demur, refined and always elegant make-up styling that has become her hallmark we were shocked to discover this one contains green(ish) glitter, some cappuccino eye colouring and a dose of pink lip gloss applied over an orange lipstick …. uggghhh … thought we.
Having now watched the video from the comfort of bed and a hot water bottle we can absolutely, positively say the idea sounds terrible but the end result is divine.
Apart from loving the nail colour we are also wondering if the  amazing Lisa Eldridge will ever do a look that isn’t perfect ?

Estee Lauder Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign

August 23rd, 2010
Estee Lauder Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign
Seems the good folks at Estee Lauder have decided to touch on a subject close to our hearts and have developed a campaign which will see profits on the sales of many of this years lines go toward the  Cancer Clinical Research Trust at St Vincents.
Naturally this means we will have to go out and purchase all the goodies we can get our hands on and it is nice that L’Onglex will be able to help fight breast cancer while at the same time getting hold of some gorgeous goodies.
Brands taking part include Aveda, Bobbi Brown, Clinique, Creme de la Mer, Donna Karen Cosmetics, Darphin, Origins and of course Estee Lauder.
Our pick has to be the pink Shimmer Brick by Bobbi Brown since €42 will get you five bars of pinky iridescent goodness and all net proceeds on compacts sold during October will go to a very worthy cause. L’Onglex is impressed !

Clinique AW10

July 26th, 2010
When it comes to eyemake-up we at L’Onglex have been stuck in a real rut and if we’re not hiding behind a screen of smokey shadow we’re probably wearing none at all. Until we got the AW10 preview for the new Clinique collection.
The look for autumn on this is basically brighter than bright eyes and features a cream eyeshadow, mascaras and limited edition quickliners. All well and all good as you may expect from Clinique but the one that we really, really loved is the High Impact mascara in brightening black.
Pretty good lengthening and pretty good volumising as well as pretty good separating left us feeling the whole thing was really rather good – clump free lashes in a jiffy !
We’re still looking at the creamy eyeshadows and will of course let you know how we get by. As there’s more than a few of us looking to get our hands on this we imagine we’ll be all creamed out in time for the August launch …

Our top SPF picks!

June 1st, 2010
Having been surprised by the appearance of the sun of late we at L’Onglex are busy tweaking our skin routines.
Out go heavy winter moisturisers to be replaced with summer skin foundations, tinted moisturisers and of course a healthy dose of SPF.
Considering that UVA is the prime factor in 90% of skin damage you would have thought we’d be a bit quicker about it and since UVA light breaks down collagen, causes wrinkles and is the main culprit for many a melanoma getting protected probably isn’t as laid-back a subject as we might suggest.
We’ve been digging deep into the make-up bags at L’onglex Towers and here are the products currently coming out on top !
Serum SPF
If you prefer your SPF to fly solo Kerstin Florin’s Spa Sun Face Serum is just the ticket. The factor 25 formula is light, smalls of delicious Chamomile and comes packed with vitamin E for skin repairs. A great antioxidant, the serum glides on and will sit perfectly under your moisturiser without making you feel like you’re overdoing it on the products.
Tinted moisturiser with SPF
Tinted moisturiser fans will love La Roche-Posay’s 50 plus tinted fluid. Combining factor 50 with a light velvety tinted moisturiser this product will work a treat if you like an all in one. Free from perfume and parbbons it’s also great for sensitive skin.
SPF Moisturiser
Superdefense SPF25 Age Defense Moisturiser’s super thick formula works a treat on dry skin while protecting it against the harsher rays of the summer sun. This moisturiser is perfect for younger skins as it also contains lots of anti-aging goodies and is nourishing without being oily or overly heavy. As bases for foundation go we love this one.
All in One
If you like your SPF on the more natural side and don’t have time for three different dabs depending on the weather try Hissy Fit’s Saving Face. A perfect combination of SPF +50, natural foundation and an anti-aging moisturiser. Perfect for ladies on the go the light to medium formula blends well and contains lots of natural goodies like cehami, pomegranate and our old favourite – green tea !
Easy SPF
Skin in need of deep nourishing may find whats needed in Elizabeth Ardens Eight Hour Cream Intensive daily mosturier. Part of the now cult eight hour range the cream comes complete with an SPF 15 and has a thick as butter formula which means a little goes a long way. Great for protection and hydration.

Summer blushes!

May 25th, 2010

With the emphasis being firmly on bronzer during the summer months blusher can often be left in the dark. Always up for the challenge we at L’Onglex Towers decided it might be time to pick over a few and see what we could find for the summer months.
In case you’re wondering why exactly we’re going over  something as simple as blusher it’s because we seem to be getting it consistently wrong. According to an expert we bumped into recently the general rule of thumb is that the colour match should be along the lines of the colour cheeks AFTER you’ve been for a session in the gym – but since we at L’Onglex never go to the gym because sweating is unladylike and it spoils our make-up – how are we supposed to know !
Anyway, a little research is never a bad thing and armed with a little knowledge and the fact that we just got paid here’s what we’ve been trying out recently.
Mac’s Fushia
Recently launched Mac’s brighter than bright full fushia is not for the faint hearted and it’s rich colour means a delicate sweep is all you’ll need to get your rouge on. A word of warning though as this shade is best given centre stage. At all costs avoid teaming it up with statement eyes and lips unless you happen to be after a look that might be described as Coco The Clown Chic ! Go gentle with this one.
Clinique
If you prefer the hues of your blusher to be in the mid-tones then Cliniques Quick Blush in x might do the job nicely and we at L’Onglex love this one.
Cleverly compact and with a good brush those amongst you who prefer to rouge-and-go will love this. The light pink blush powder  is located in the lid and has the same perfectly blendable consistancy you would find in a blush compact.
Bourjois
Peachy shades can be a little bit more difficut to get right but after hovering at the Bourjois counter for longer than is considered to be healthy by most mental health experts we came across a gem in the shape of Peche Volupte.
Small but perfectly formed the blush is a medium peach shade and comes compleate with fine shades of goldy goodness. The blush also has a lovely pearl finish which blends well and will flatter even ghostliest skin tones amongst you.

Clinique All About Eyes Serum

April 19th, 2010
Regular readers will know we have more then a keen interest in banishing our under eye bags which is why we got very excited when we found out whats coming down the line at Clinique. Having tried everything we can get our hands on we’re particularly excited about this one given it’s from Clinique.
The All About Eyes serum is designed to de-puff and restore tired eyes and although I’m not a scientist I’m willing to bet that if I looked  hard enough there would be some ’sciency’ type things in it.
Having gotten my mitts on a bottle I am happy to report the following observations ….
i) It’s not a concealer for under your peepers
and
ii) My eyes looked and felt brighter once I had rolled it on.
Whether this replaces my old ( though not handbag friendly ) favourites of cucumber slices and old T-bags is another matter. The Clinique All About Eyes serum will be hitting the shelves from May onwards – we liked it !

Regular readers will know we have more than a passing interest in banishing our under eye bags. Excuse our enthusiasm but when we found out what’s coming down the line in the form of the All About Eyes Serum from Clinique in May we had to get our hands on it.

Designed to de-puff and restore tired eyes I didn’t get too much into the science aspect but then not being a scientist that’s probably a blessing for everyone. Besides I don’t really care about the formula per se but probably like you I just care about whether it works. It does !

Having gotten my mitts on a tube and played around with it for a full week I am delighted to record the following observations ….

i) It’s not a concealer for under your peepers so it’s more about regular use than hiding in emergencies ….

ii) my eyes looked and felt brighter once I had rolled it on !

Whether this replaces my trusted (though not particularly handbag friendly) favourites of cucumber slices and old t-bags is another matter. The Clinique All About Eyes Serum will be hitting the shelves from May onwards and having tested it we’re happy to give it the L’Onglex seal of approval.

New Clinique anti blemish foundation

April 1st, 2010
We do love a new launch here at longlex towers, so when whisperings of the latest release from Clinque reached our ears we just had to pass on the news.
Given that one in ten of us suffer from blemished or acne prone skin finding the right foundation can be a little difficult. It’s a common complaint as most foundations that seek to redress imbalances in the skin don’t really address the root causes and very rarely make a real visible difference.
The new Clinique anti-blemish liquid foundation is designed to camouflage blemishes and diminish irritation and skin redness which is usually associated with problem skin. I won’t blind you with the science because like you I don’t really care …. the question is does it work ?
We managed to get our hands on some this morning and whilst we can’t say for sure whether it’s evrything that Clinique normally is we can tell you it looks good so far.  The formula is quite heavy but it doesn’t feel too oily and covers quite nicely.
Even if you don’t suffer from problem skin we think it might be worth investing in a bottle if your a bit run-down or have the inevitable hormone fluctuations.
If you do try it let us know how you get on.Anti-Blemish Solutions Liquid Makeup Ad shot
