New goodies from Bobbi Brown

February 19th, 2011
Regular readers will know when it comes to our under eye circles we’re borderline obsessed. As dark patches are more often than not the bane of L’Onglex’s otherwise flawless beauty routine, we are always on the lookout for anything we think might be able to make us look a bit less scary when the dreaded panda eye chooses to strike.
Enter the latest release from Bobbi Brown which is an all-in-one corrector and concealer. Designed to banish the blotches for good, Bobbi has created two new products which we’ve been fortunate enough to get our greedy mitts on.
The first product is a creamy pink skin corrector which works by evening out grey tones  and brightening the under eye area. As with all things Bobbi, matching product to skin tone isn’t too difficult as there are 12 shades to choose from.
When we first applied this we were quite impressed and being the impatient sorts we are we thought we’d leave it at that. But once the corrector is in place skin tones is quite pinkish so the concealer is what really does the work with this.
Much creamier than previous concealers, the latest edition works a treat at bringing eyes back to something like their natural best and once it hits the corrector the two work really well together. As the new range also comes with a press powder that keeps everything in place we are firmly of the opinion that this one is going to be a bit of a keeper.
So far our only gripe is on the subject of the brush and it is a bit of a shame that this hasn’t been as well thought out as the rest of the compact. Whether or not we’ll be inspired to invest in something with a bit better coverage is something we’ll have to consider once we finally see what the price on this one is. As it hits shelves at BT’s in early April we figure this is one product that is definitely worth the wait.

body shop rocks

February 10th, 2011
We do love a good collaboration here at L’Onglex HQ so when we got wind of the latest launch from The Body Shop we just thought it might be good of us to share the deets !
Quite possibly ( actually … no definitely ) the brightest collection we’ve come across this spring, the limited edition ‘Brush With Fashion’ collection has been created in collaboration with the internationally acclaimed London College of Fashion and the result is the new range wrapped up in a whimsically bright collection of packaging.
Brimming with handbag friendly products the collection includes an a Illuminating Face Base, Hi-Shine Lip Treatment , Tailored Cheek Tint , Super Volume Mascara as well as portable palettes for the eyes. Although pretty, L’Onglex is also assured that this isn’t just a case of a pretty product in pretty packaging but as the sets come with the added bonus of individual brushes for each product topping up on the go is a breeze and you’ll never get your pinks mixed with your blues.
The collection hits counters at the beginning of the month and as we’ve already got our eye on at least one of the palettes we can pretty much guarantee we’ll be sporting something bright for spring and summer.

Things we loved this week: MAC WonderWoman

It’s kitsch, it’s camp, it’s colourful and we’re loving it. Set for release in March 2011 the above pictures are from MAC’s new WonderWoman range and L’Onglex can’t wait to get every single item for our collection.
If you are not sure what the fuss is about the launch in question is based on the comic series superhero which was turned into a TV series which ran between 1975-1979. WonderWoman herself was the first real female superhero who developed her crime fighting skills with the help of various badly made items of costume jewelry.
Helped by along by the special powers given to her by a magic belt, her ability to deflect bullets using her wristbands and the ability to make men tell the truth with the use of a magic lasso, the series became a instant phenomenon and propelled Lynda Carter to worldwide fame.
Why Mac has chosen to take the range as it’s inspiration we are not quite sure but if it gives us even a smidgen of her powers we’ll be more than pleased with the outlay. Lets face it, who isn’t loving that gold make-up bag – click here here’s to see the 70’s TV show in all its glory !

Things we loved this week: Hocus Focus Illuminator

Things we loved this week: Hocus Pocus Illuminator
As L’Onglex is getting all Christmasy at the moment there are probably a hundred things that we are currently going gaga for. Whilst the glittery stuff usually manages to grab all the headlines at this time of year it would have been easy to do something with a bit of sparkle, wish you all a merry Christmas and cheerfully take our leave.
That was until we started looking for something to add to the routine that would give our complexion a bit of a lift without the need for bronze or glitter and do you think we could find anything ? No.
Having trawled and trawled and searched and searched we were getting quite hot under the collar until someone in these parts suggested an illuminator. In fact, the suggestion was Hocus Pocus by Soap and Glory.
So, if you haven’t come across this we think you might want to. As you can wear it under foundation for a base or over your foundation to work as a highlighter it’s a pretty good addition to the winter routine and although there are pearls in the mixture it does diffuse the light so that the highlighting seems quite natural with lighter skin tones – result !

That  was what we were going to do until early this week we started looking for something to add to the routine that would give our complexion a bit of a lift without the need for bronze or glitter. Do you think we could find anything ? No.

Having trawled and trawled and searched and searched we were all getting quite hot under the collar until someone in these parts suggested using an illuminator. Quite why we didn’t think of this ourselves is a moot point and in actual fact the suggestion was quite specific – Hocus Focus by Soap and Glory.

So, if you haven’t come across this we think you might want to. As you can wear it under foundation for a base or over your foundation to work as a highlighter it’s a pretty good addition to the winter routine and although there are pearls in the mixture it does diffuse the light so that the end result seems quite natural, especially if you’ve got a lighter skin tone – all we have do to now is ask Santa if it’s not too late to get a bottle thrown into our Christmas stocking !

Christmas make-up … pink over orange ???

December 7th, 2010
Not sure if we should say this but we’re going to anyway. Just this afternoon L’Onglex got wind that Lisa Eldridges new Christmas looks video was now online.
Thinking we were getting a taste of the demur, refined and always elegant make-up styling that has become her hallmark we were shocked to discover this one contains green(ish) glitter, some cappuccino eye colouring and a dose of pink lip gloss applied over an orange lipstick …. uggghhh … thought we.
Having now watched the video from the comfort of bed and a hot water bottle we can absolutely, positively say the idea sounds terrible but the end result is divine.
Apart from loving the nail colour we are also wondering if the  amazing Lisa Eldridge will ever do a look that isn’t perfect ?

Clarins Eclat Minute Instant Light Brush On Perfector

August 10th, 2010
It’s been a while since the subject of panda eyes was mentioned on the L’Onglex blog.
What with the sunny weather, the powers of fake tan and a mood of general cheeriness we’d almost forgotten about the dark circles that lurk just below the surface ready to pounce at the first sign of tiredness. Just when we’d gotten comfortable with the whole idea of looking healthy, the latest offerings from Clarins landed with a thump on the L’Onglex beauty desk and in an instant we were reminded that summer wont be with us forever.
Eclat Minute is from the autumn collection and works as a perfecter which promises to hide dark circles and have those peepers button bright in the blink of an eye. After a little confusion and some hasty fake tan removal we’ve been passing this round to general acclaim and although none of us really want to be reminded that the darker months will soon be upon us, at least we have one more weapon when it comes to the dark patches.
Naturally we’ll be putting this away until the time is right as we plan to carry off the fake tan until at least November but when the time does come we are at least safe in the knowledge we have something to pluck from the bag in case of emergency. Result !

L’Onglex loves Hissyfits tinted moisturiser!

August 3rd, 2010
Morning peeps …
If you’re wondering what happened to L’Onglex over the last few days fear not as our disappearance can be explained by the fact that we were at the Castle Palooza Festival in Tullamore.
It goes without saying that L’Onglex had a bit of a ball but we didn’t neglect our duty to beauty completely since while we were there we did manage to road test a couple of foundations for the benefit of these pages.
Easily the best of the bunch was Saving Face by Hissyfit. Anti-aging, SPF 50 and with extracts of green tea we weren’t too sure before we went but it seems to have come from behind to emerge as the surprise winner.
As liquid foundations go this one blends well and even I managed not to make it look too streaky come Monday morning. Given the fact that no sleep, no mirror and lots of Kopperburg are generally considered a bad start for ones beauty routine we can’t claim we looked good, but we can at least say Hissyfit helped salvage what was left of L’Onglex’s dignity ….. just !

Morning peeps …

If you’re wondering what happened to L’Onglex over the last few days please fear not as our disappearance can be explained by the fact that we were at the CastlePalooza Festival in Tullamore.

It goes without saying that L’Onglex had a bit of a ball but we didn’t neglect our duty to beauty completely since while we were there we did manage to road test a couple of foundations for the benefit of these pages.

Some were of course better than others and whilst we are not the sort to name and shame we can say that the best of the bunch was Saving Face by Hissyfit. Anti-aging, SPF 50 and with extracts of green tea we weren’t too sure before we went but it seems to have come from the bottom of the rucksack to emerge as the surprise winner.

Dewy skin anyone ?

July 16th, 2010
When it comes to make-up one of the most popular looks for summer is the one everyone is calling Dewey Skin. Young, fresh and glistening it’s a look that’s really caught our eye as it works toward a smoother, fresher, more natural finish that you can wear anywhere. We’re also loving the look because rather than just slapping on the products and heading out the door this is as much about about routine and taking the holistic approach to skin which has to better in the long term. Here’s some pointers:
Exfoliate
In life they say take the rough with the smooth but if it’s dewy skin your after this simply won’t do. A good but gentle exfoliation on regular basis will help slough away the dead skin leaving a smoother more useful base. You don’t need to overdo it since stripping away too much given the weather will dry out rather than smoothing skin so take it easy and the looks a breeze. We’ve been using Voya’s Love Scrub with seaweed extract which is perfect for more sensitive exfoliation.
Mosturise
Plump, firm, hydrated skin is the base for getting a good dewy look so use a cream that locks in the moisture and hydrates for longer. If your skin type is dry try working in intensive overnight treatments. A while ago on the blog we found out about Argon Oil which is really good for overnight repairs. We’ve been loving Naturelle D’Agan which is available at BT’s. Plenty of vitamin E and a unique concentration of fatty acids if you manage to get your hands on the pure version.
Use a face mist
For the ultimate dewy base spritz skin with a facial toner before you apply make-up. Not only will this refresh tired skin but it will give your skin a perfectly hydrated base for applying foundation which in turn means you can use less foundation and won’t have to touch up as often. If your skin is too dry even the best foundations tend to flake so a spritz in time might spare your blushers !
Use an illiuminator
Being as we at L’Onglex do nothing with our days other than talking shop about make-up we’re quickly learning a few tricks of the trade. At the time of writing there are two illuminators which we simply can’t do without, St Tropez skin illuminator which is perfect for highlighting and the  more sun kissed look and Mac’s Strobe Cream which is a bit lighter and works perfectly before applying foundation.
Swap powders for cream
Obviously there’s a time and a place for everything but at this time of year powdered make-up tends to dry out skin and can leave you with that caked on appearance. Swapping your solid foundations for a cream versions like Maybelines Dream Creamy Foundation will give better hydration and is a bit better at not clogging the pores. On a similar note, powdered eyeshadow works in a similar way so lighter highlighters like Benefits Creaseless Cream in Champagne are better for a fresher, more natural finish.
As with any new regime their are side effects so whilst we can’t say for certain this will make you look ridiculously young, you may wish to take the some precautions in advance. So, when a stranger asks your sister if she is your mum try not to laugh too hard, and of course it goes without saying that you should learn not to gloat when the man at the check out asks you for ID when you do the monthly wine shop !

L’Onglex goes all twilight

July 14th, 2010
Although many of us here at L’Onglex HQ have yet to set eyes on the Twilight saga we must admit we’ve developed somthing of a girl crush on the leading lady – Ms Kristen Stewart.
Having discussed this for a while we are not quite so sure what it is about her that has taken our fancy but we like the whole moody thing she’s slowly cultivated and having her currently stare down to us from every billboard and the back of the bus we we’re thinking of cultivating our very own moody theme.
Enter our favourite You Tube beauty queen Lauren Luke who has decided to step in at the last minute with a much needed video explaining with by way of helpful video demonstration how it is we can get this for ourselves. This one we quite like !

Burberry make-up

July 9th, 2010
Having amused ourselves all morning with thoughts of which footballers might be suited to make-up endorsement we found ourselves on the subject of Wags. Having mulled over the subject of designer clothes, expensive restaurants and glamorous beach holidays for the best part of lunch our particular brand of tittle tattle turned to the Celtic Tiger and it dawned on us there are some bits we quite miss.
After coming over all bleary eyed and rose tinted at all the money spent someone round these parts piped up and mentioned Burberry. Now, if you don’t remember the days of every b-list celeb clad head to toe in their signature check it nearly killed off the brand for good but over the last few years the wags have moved on and the fashion house remains.
Last seasons catwalk collections were seriously good and quite by chance we came across the new line in make-up which we are adding to the ever growing L’Onglex wish list. Now that none of us can afford the clothes we can at least console ourselves at the idea of being able to splash out now and again on designer make-up and having found the new range for AW10 we just might.
The new range includes Lip Cover with anti-aging ceramides, some gorgeous sheer eyeshadow and some very natural foundations. As the range launches in London on July 12th we haven’t had a chance to try it and we’re still not sure who’ll be stocking it so if anyone has any details please leave a comment.
