Trendwatch: Hairspray
Whilst L’Onglex may not be the sort to read, dwell or even understand financial spreadsheets we certainly know a trend when we see one. That’s right folks, the day we’ve all been dreading is now upon as we officially announce that big hair and more amusingly big hairspray is back.
According to our sources hairspray sales have boomed in the last year with all major brands reporting an increase in sales as the fashion masses rush out and buy cans by the boxload in order to satisfy an insatiable and rather disturbing lust for wanting to emulate Cheryl Cole hairstyles.
Those of you who remember our Cheryl Cole hairspray posting will already be aware that the popstrel’s face has been plastered all over limited edition cans of the stuff but far from being something of a sordid joke, sales are rising on a rapid scale and that Cheryl backcomb we all thought didn’t suit her has been seriously in demand.
In the UK sales of hairspray have risen from €120m to around €132m ( not bad in a recession ) and the market is only set to grow with the return of 80’s glamour set to remain one of the big hair trends for next seasons.
Those of you who read this blog and were around in the eighties will no doubt remember the days of big dreams, big shoulder pads and big hair but all that ambition for wanting a massive bouffant wasn’t exactly cheap on the spritz.
For L’Onglex’s younger readers, please note the the above picture and should you be in any doubt as to exactly where styling with too much hairspray will take you, be glad that Google Image Search has preserved this look for historical reference. History has warned us …. don’t do it kids !

Those of you who read this blog and were around in the eighties will no doubt be tutting as you remember the days of big dreams, big shoulder pads and big hair but will know that an ambition for wearing a curly perm or a massive bouffant wasn’t exactly cheap. A girl had to make certain sacrifices when it came to the spritz.

It may have been acceptable in the 80’s, but history has warned us …. don’t do it kids !
