L’Onglex wins at the Prudence Beauty Awards!

August 27th, 2010

awards_prudence

After a few cheeky bottles of Bulmers Light it was with great delight that L’Onglex collected our Prudence Beauty Award for best buy in the Hand and Nails category at the uber trendy Gibson Hotel.

Presented to us by the lovely Sinead Desmond, L’Onglex is now the proud owner of a happy hangover and a very fancy trophy. We are also pleased to announce that those present were spared the tearful acceptance speech we were going to make, as we were up on the podium before we knew it and the whole thing was over in a flash !

Prudence awards

We are of course delighted with the award and would like to thank Prudence for organising such a brilliant event and also for letting us share the spotlight with brands like Vaseline, Soap and Glory and the fantastic Rodger & Gallet.

If only every night were a red carpet night !

L’Onglex is famous !

July 30th, 2010
As regular readers to these pages will no doubt be aware L’Onglex loves it when we get a mention in the media. If you remember how exited we were when our giant bottle ran the marathon and was featured in The Daily Star you can imagine our joy when the girls at Beaut.ie featured us on Xpose !
Yup, thanks to the lovely Aishling who was kind enough to feature us on her Xpose slot L’Onglex made it through to the best beauty buys for under a tenner and found ourselves in quite illustrious company. Also featured were Essence Return to Paradise Powder, Barry M Dazzledust eyeshadows and Vaseline Sheer infusions body lotion.
Obviously it goes without saying we are pleased but at the same time L’Onglex is also quite humbled and a big thank you is in order.
You can catch the rest of the products on the list at Beaut.ie (http://beaut.ie/blog/?p=27676) or if you didn’t see Xpose on Wednesday you can click here to catch up !

Ooh ahh Daily Star … say ooh ahh Daily Star !

Ooh ahh Daily Star … say ooh ahh Daily Star !
If you happened to pick up the Daily Star this morning you will have no doubt noticed our efforts at yesterdays mini marathon have not gone unnoticed.
That’s right, the intrepid L’Onglex bottle has been papped on page eight of todays Daily Star and we don’t mind saying we think we look rather fetching and I also don’t mind telling you that since featured the fame has gone to our heads. We’re currently trying to get VIP passes into Krystal off the back of our new found celebrity but no luck as yet.
Quite where we go to after this one is now a matter of heated debate at L’Onglex Towers as we are not sure exactly how we can top doing a mini-marathon in a life sized L’Onglex bottle made of styrofoam. We haven’t told poor Emma yet as she’s still recovering but currently on the agenda are the following publicity ideas ;
A Hello! style wedding complete with country home photos and mini bottles of L’Onglex looking up at us adoringly round the fireplace.
A parachute jump posted on You-Tube.
Entering the L’Onglex Bottle in the Big Brother house.
Suggestions on a postcard or leave a comment !

We’re currently trying to get VIP passes into Krystal off the back of our new found celebrity but no luck as yet so while we’re waiting the small matter of where we go to after this one is a subject of heated debate.

In the event you’re wondering what a life-size bottle of nail polish remover looks like running a marathon the YouTube Video might clear things up a little.

We did it!

June 7th, 2010
Not sure when we’ll finish but …..
A big thanks to ————- who ran for L’Onglex in todays Flora Women’s Mini Marathon.
As you know last week L’Onglex are supporting Sightsavers at this years event. We’ll be providing goodie bags to all those runners who have so kindly given their time at to support a very worthwhile cause. At some point last week someone in these parts piped up with the idea that as well as giving lending our support, we should also run the marathon as a bottle of L’Onglex.
Enter MadeinHollywood.ie who very kindly made the bottle for our run and of course —————– who braved the elements to show our support.
Look out for more images shortly.

A big thanks to Emma Flanagan who ran for L’Onglex in todays Flora Women’s Mini Marathon.

Us being us and never happy to take the easy route at some point last week someone in these parts came up with the idea that we might as well do the run – and if we were going to do the run we might as well do the run dressed as a giant bottle of nail polish remover !

Supporting us in our efforts to never do things the easy way were MadeinHollywood.ie ( who very kindly made the giant bottle for our run ) and of course Emma who braved the elements to show our support.

We were also out and about taking some snaps of all the fantastic ladies who took part in todays marathon – well done to you all!

L’Onglex need your help !

Calling all marathon runners
This year L’Onglex are supporting Sightsavers at this years Mini Marathon.
If you’re not familiar with the charity, Sightsavers Ireland funds programmes in 21 developing countries and are working to eliminate avoidable blindness and promote equality of opportunity for people who are visually impaired.
If you’re a woman in the developing world the sad news is that you are twice as likely to suffer from blindness  and due to factors like the constraints of healthcare provision, costs of treatment and childcare commitments women in the developing world miss out on access to simple healthcare procedures that can eliminate avoidable blindness.
Sightsavers are looking for participants in this years Mini Marathon and to help spread the word about the charity we would like you to join with them if you’re running. Choose Sightsavers as your charity and in return not only will you be able to help the lives of so many women in the developing world but you’ll also bag yourself a goodie bag as a small token of our thanks for your help.
Ladies who run with Sightsavers will get bags which includes L’Onglex Nail Polish Remover, Gosh moisturisers, Nivea Goodies, Galaxy Chocolates, and vouchers for Kildare Village Outlet and Robert Chambers Salons – after all the good work you’ll be doing, no-one will begrudge you a little luxury for those exertions !

Beauty of Yore: Black lipstick in 1939!

May 20th, 2010

We absolutely loved the Beaut.ie post today on Magazines of Yore where they’ve reproduced pages from More magazine in 1990 showing some beauty horrors from 20 years ago.

“90’s – Bah!” said we at L’Onglex ! We delved into our archives and have found a few gems. L’Onglex was launched the same year as the Titanic (1911) and we know its sad but we have magazines going back as far as 1935 advertising our brand and thumbing through the 1939 Picturegoer Weekly it is amazing how so many brands are still with us. As for the painful sounding product called NIPITS we’re kind of pleased that one has fallen into obscurity !

Longlex 1939 page

However our own favourite from that same issue has got to be the Black Magic Tatoo lipstick that goes on black but gets redder depending on how moist your lips get! What were they up to over 70 years ago?!!!

Now we’ve won an Irish Tatler Beauty Award too!

April 23rd, 2010

Irish Tatler cover

Just as we were recovering from the brilliant news of winning an IMAGE Beauty Award, it has been announced that….(drum roll!)  L’Onglex has also won an Irish Tatler Beauty Award too !

Similar to the IMAGE Awards, this award is based on rigorous testing by an independent expert panel of judges who are leaders in haircare, skincare and beauty. The decisions were based on texture, scent, effectiveness and value.

In granting L’Onglex the award, Irish Tatler said:

“A long time favourite complete with a chic makeover and new formula to replenish nails.”

OK we promise this wont go to our heads too much, but we are really proud of the fact that in the last few weeks two separate independent panels of judges have named L’Onglex as the best nail polish remover!

We would like to thank everyone at Irish Tatler magazine, the judges, the girls at Beaut.ie (just because we like them), our mammies, our partners (fades to crying….!).

Image Magazine awards …. we won !

April 15th, 2010
We at L’Onglex towers are dizzy with excitement ! If you’re wondering why I’ll explain. You see, L’Onglex have just found out that we won a nail and handcare award at this years Image Magazine Beauty Awards. Scoring a very decent 90% in tests by this years judges Jennie Hingston said this of our lovely L’Onglex formula;
“This is one of the original and still the best nail polish removers. It quickly dissolves product and is amazing value.”
As if this wasn’t enough excitement for one morning we also got a very nice mention from Beaut.ie. You can read what Kirsty says here.
Ok, we know that we are supposed to be gracious in victory and under ordinary circumstances we probably wouldn’t do this because we’re not the sort to blow our own trumpets but please forgive us the following acceptance speech ….
” We won, we won, we won, we won, we won. In your face more expensive less gentle and less effective nail polish removers ….. we won !”
We promise you our heads will return to normal size by tomorrow !

Evening Herald puts L’Onglex on list of budget buys!

March 25th, 2010

Kirstie McDermott of Beaut.ie included us in a shortlist of 10 recommended budgets buys in the Evening Herald lately. She was testing beauty products that perform for pocket-friendly prices in these recession times.

Evening Herald Mar 2010

Kirstie does say that nail polish remover is not the sexiest thing in the world!!!

How could she!

Seriously we actually agree. Nail polish remover is one of life’s little beauty essentials that shouldn’t be complicated. We all want a simple remover that works….removes polish quickly and looks after our nails.

Kirstie gives us a big thumbs up:

“L’Onglex is really good value and it really performs. It has no time for darks and glitter and whips them off as quickly as it does a pastel pink. In two formulations, acetone-based and acetone free, there’s one for everyone. You’ll find them the repackaged, retro bottles at supermarkets such as Dunnes and Superquinn now.”

Prudence Girl and the L’Onglex Lady

March 3rd, 2010

They have both been spotted in Paris lately, so it’s no surprise that the L’Onglex Lady and Prudence Girl (wow don’t they sound like super heros!) have become firm friends.

pru_girlThe discrete L’Onglex Lady is quite mysterious. She is occasionally spotted quaffing a glass of wine at a Parisian street cafe or dashing to catch the Metro, still looking ever so elegant.

According to the Prudence website the Prudent girl is the girl every woman wants to be – the head turner who arrives at the party wearing a shrug she picked up in Paris for €2 at the flea market. She always looks a million dollars but doesn’t have to earn a fortune to look good.

We love that Prudence don’t just write about good value style, but actually back this up by offering either the free weekly PruZine or else a very special  subscription to their bi-monthly glossy magazine for just €15 for six issues which is a 49% saving off the normal price. They are even offering a free Nivea Visage hamper worth over €60 to the first 25 to subscribe for €15. Wow that’s not a bargain it’s a steal!

Of course we also just have to love a glossy mag that describes us as a real treat for beautiful nails, costing a very prudent €3.69
