It’s been a while since we got our pinkies out for you here on the L’Onglex blog so when we had our talons tidied last week we thought it would be the perfect time to show off our perfectly polished pinkies.
Given the current financial woes L’Onglex has found that our trips to the salon for manicures have become few and far between. Having not really treated my poor paws for ages all was going perfectly well until the bit where it’s time to choose what to get.
I mean, in the old days when everyone in Ireland was a millionaire choosing the final coats on a manicure didn’t seem to matter very much. I mean, you could always just get something else next week if things didn’t go to plan.
Things being the way they are and knowing that it will probably be ages before we get done again the final coat became like a life or death type conundrum. Where would L’Onglex be going ? Should we get a coat that’s best for day or evening ? Should we just get something really plain so as not to draw attention to the fact we spent our pay cheque on a mani etc ?
In the end L’Onglex said ’sod it’ and whilst we intend to embrace the current trend for chipped nails sometime in the near future we went with the brown and gold hues of OPI’s Shimmery Chic and we are very glad we did.
Subtle enough for the office and sparkly enough for after work drinks we think this is the perfect shade for 9-5 – more swatches coming soon !

Nars release vintage nail polish collection
Possibly the most eclectic product launch we’ve seen for ages comes our way courtesy of the Nars Autumn and Winter collection and just when we thought we’d seen it all they bring us five new vintage shades as a tribute to some of their favourite films.
The new collection will probably keep us quite busy while we waste our winter nights curling up on the couch watching DVD’s. The five new shades are MASH* (army green), King Kong (copper brown), Midnight Express (navy), Zulu (forest green) and a rather delicious Full Metal Jacket (gunmetal grey).
Obviously we at L’Onglex don’t claim to be highbrow film buffs or bar room psychologists we have to say we are a little concerned that Nars’ favourite films seem to involve ill equipped hospitals, kidnap, drug running, murder and sociopaths in the midst of a war it is at least nice to see one beauty launch that doesn’t involve Cheryl Cole or SITC … L’Onglex is impressed.

New Mac nail shades announced !
L”onglex is a quiver for news reaches us of MAC’s Autumn nail shades and having digested the pics for all of ten seconds we have decided dispatch some pics to the blog forthwith.
Designed by Jin Soon, this seasons MAC colours take their inspiration from the architecture and fabrics of the Forbidden City and the once mighty Chinese Imperial Dynasty.
Whilst L’Onglex doesn’t really know too much about the Imperial family we do know a good collection when we see one and we think we can safely proclaim that come September we’ll be heading to MAC counters to get hold of as many of the six new shades as piggy banks will allow.
L’Onglex will post some actual pics as soon as we have a couple of shades in the L’Onglex’s ever bulging big bag of brill beauty.

Minxs on our pinks
When it comes to our pinkies polish is usually L’Onglex’s adornment of choice but to mix things up a little we decided to go and get minxed !
No, for those of you who skim read that did not involve a few too many cocktails but does in fact refer to the rather colourful stickers which have been glued to our pinkies this very afternoon and even if we do say so ourselves we are enjoying the effect.
After much humming and haaing we finally decided not to unleash our inner Gaga and rather than the gold version we grabbed a set in the rather colourful design pictured. At €35 for a set from Naildressers Salon we figured they’re not exactly cheap but we are rather impressed at how neat the whole thing looks.
As they’re also really thin we must say we prefer the overall profile to gels and for the next few days we think their keepers … any thoughts ??

Without wishing to sound too terribly girly about the whole thing we at L’Onglex are currently trying to grow our nails. As nothing really bothers us more than a ping to the pinkies you might think we would be more careful. Alas no. L’Onglex’s nails are in a terrible state.
Obviously the miniature of our nail related dilemmas probably isn’t of interest to you the reader but after another breakage only yesterday this now gives us only three nails to work with and nothing to be done.
There was a moral to this story but frankly we forgot it and we just think that had we bothered a bit more with the Sally Hanson Diamond Strength nail formula with it’s active ingredients of titanium and micro diamonds we would by now be busy posting our paws in peculiar shades and saying how terribly well we look – L’Onglex is sad.

I know this is a bit sketchy and there was a moral to this story but frankly we forgot it and so all that is left to do is mention that had we bothered a bit more with the Sally Hanson Diamond Strength nail formula and it’s active ingredients of titanium and micro diamonds we would by now be busy posting our paws in peculiar shades and saying how terribly well we look – L’Onglex is sad.

Another day and another new collection is waiting for L’Onglex. This evening we’ve just got news of the latest collection from Nails Inc and we thought that rather than wait we’d just share the new colours as quickly as we could.
Due to hit shelves tomorrow the collection includes four glossy muted shades that wouldn’t look out of place beside Chanel’s Particuliere or the new Paradoxal and we must say we are rather looking forward to trying them when the time comes.
The winter catwalks have been all about soft tones, neat detailing and plenty of greiging so it comes as no surprise to L’Onglex that the shades include the grey/lilac shades of Lowndes Square, the glossy gunmetal of Duke of Wellington Place or the rather regal black overtones of Queensgate Mews.
L’Onglex’s favourite is the rich dark taupes contained within Palace Garden Terrace and as soon as we get some ….. and we will get some ….. we’ll have it on our paws and on the blog in no time. For any of you who are wondering where our regular swatches have gone and why we have slowed down on the bright shades of summer the truth is we are badly in need of a mani and thought we’d give our nails a rest before we kick off the autumn shades with Chanel ———–

Although we’ve been a little short on the uptake nail art is currently back with a bang and we’re predicting something of a renaissance on this trend.
We are loving these tips which are from London’s Cobella salon and as L’Onglex is predicting something of a revival for fancy nails next year we’ll probably be seeing something very similar to these like, er, everywhere.
Whether leopard print acrylics make it for this season remains to be seen but with everything having gone a bit eighties over the last couple of years it wouldn’t surprise us.
If you’re thinking of getting these done our advice is to book early. Even Madonna’s daughter Lourdes couldn’t get a London appointment as the salon is booked about two months in advance.

L’Onglex has a confession….
When it comes to nail polish we like to think we’re ahead of the pack so when news broke at L’Onglex HQ yesterday that Revelons Grey Suede has been one of this summers biggest polish hits we were left scratching our heads a little and wondering how we missed it.
Why hadn’t we heard of this muted beige shade before ? Had it simply passed us by, was there a conspiracy or were we just not looking hard enough ? To add insult to injury it has also emerged that we totally missed the fact that the polish has been picked up by none other than Ms Florence Welsh who was seen sporting the distinctly nudie nail shade at this years Brit Awards ceremony.
After much soul searching and lots of questions we finally came to the conclusion that the only way to rectify ourselves in the eyes of those who keep their eyes on these matters is to head to Boots quicksmart and pick up a bottle for the L’Onglex collection of colours we covet …..we will keep you posted !

A few weeks ago we brought you news of the Urban Decay Summer of Love Nail lacquar collection….oh how we oooed and how we aahhhed and we took pictures of the pretty case, and after it was all over we promised to take the colours we had and cherish and love them forever more. We also promised to swatch the rest of the collection over the coming weeks…..but sadly we got distracted.
We got distracted because newer, shinier products kept landing at L’Onglex Towers and despite our solemn vows the Summer of Love and all the things the collection once promised were simply words that floated on the wind. All was forgotten ….. until now !
Yesterday we re-discovered it nestled under our testing pile and the realisation dawned on us that we had forgotten to bring these colours to the blog and that L’Onglex had in fact been acting like a child with too many toys. Remembering our promise for a summer of love the crushing realisation that we had indeed been unfaithful to a nail polish colour hit us like a ton of bricks and we were out with the brightest of them as soon as we had a spare minute !
The shade above and to the left on the L’Onglex pinkies is indeed an acid pink that goes by the name of Woodstock. By way of asking for forgiveness we have vowed to wear this colour at CastlePalooza this weekend. L’Onglex is chastened !

When it comes to topping up our manicure we’re quite a lazy bunch so anything that might be able to keep it looking shiny, new and picture perfect for longer than usual is pretty much guaranteed to be elevated to ‘cult-status-must-have’ quicker than we can say ‘file and paint’.
The above product is Sally Hansen Nail Shine Miracle and when we read the claims that nails shine for up to ten days by virtue of an exclusive marine complex formula which continually releases shine boosters we were a bit sceptical. However, as L’Onglex is now on day nine and the application is still looking good we think we’ll forget our misgivings and focus on the fact it does what it says it will do – we tip our hats to the folks at Sally H.
