Feeling a little under the weather ?

March 7th, 2011
oh how we love the weekends… a time to lie in….a time to break the diet and a time catch up with the girls. That said, the downside to having spent our weekend being mostly in a state that we’re calling ‘Training for Paddy’s Day’ , L’Onglex is now paying the price and is feeling more than a little peaky.
Ordinarily we might just call a sicky, crawl back under the duvet and claim a 24hr bug but as we kind of spilled the beans on the plans for our  weekend last Friday that option is now unavailable to us.
So, having exhausted our livers, ourselves, our sick-notes and most importantly our skin, we can only turn to the fabulous Lisa Eldridge for a video tutorial on how to perk up pasty skin that’s partied too hard. Hope your Monday has been a bit easier than ours ……

Who loves Adele ?

February 23rd, 2011
ho loves fish face ?
Now that we’re officially over the hump we’ve been looking for a little Saturday night make-up inspiration and after figuring we rather liked the look of Adele at the Brit awards a little hunting online for her look led us to Lauren Luke’s latest celebrity ‘how to’
Thinking will be just perfect for our weekend out Lauren demonstrates how to nail that perfectly smokey bronzed look by some simple blending techniques for the eyes and a highlighting technique which the geordie princess of powder calls ‘fish face’. On reflection this might not sound too pretty, but the end result is nicely contoured cheeks.
Rimmel, Benefit and MAC are all in the mix and as with all things Lauren Luke ( http://www.bylaurenluke.com/default.aspx ), the video is just so easy to follow – we love this look !

Need a look for a night on the town

With the miserable month fast becoming a distant memory L’Onglex is currently saving our pennies for a big night out. Looking forward as we are to ditching the diet, finally paying off the Christmas purchases and letting our hair down we thought we might cast around for something that might work for a night on the tiles.
Enter the ever delightful Pixiwoo ( http://pixiwoo.blogspot.com/ ) who has come as the saviour to our particular dancing dilemma with a sharp but smokey, soft but glamourous look which will do us just fine. As a final note on the subject the first time we tried this the fake lashes went astray and when we added a touch of Mac C3 to a big foundation brush what we got in return could only be described as a splodge.
It is perfect, but we’ll be putting a bit more practice into this one before we head out the door.

Things we loved this week: Arch de Triumph by Soap and Glory

January 31st, 2011
It’s been a while since we’ve discussed our brows here on the L’Onglex blog yet that doesn’t mean we have forgotten. Yes, the curvaceous lip or the glamorous lash may demand more of our time and attention but that certainly doesn’t mean that our rather sad and narrow minded escapades with all things brow related has fallen by the wayside – creating the perfect arch is still an obsession !
Finding ourselves knee deep in eyebrow powders and pencils it’s been business as usual when it comes to testing and having not had too much to report of late all has been quiet until we chanced on the discovery of Soap & Glory’s Arch De Triumph.
If you haven’t seen this yet we think you soon might as like nearly everything Soap and Glory it’s pretty decent at the price and then some. The pencil itself is double sided and comes with a powdery brown for filling and a shimmery white for highlighting. Basically the filling has quite a light texture which makes it great for feathering and leaves quite a natural finish.  If you’re looking to avoid a look that screams Bert from Sesame Street did my make-up this might be it.
Being as we’re not the greatest when it comes to keeping a steady hand for subtle shading, contained within is a pretty decent highlighter which, when combined with a quick smudge, goes a long way in defining the natural brow shape. As we’ve now blathered about the benefits we also feel it fair to mention the one downside to Arch De Triumph that we’ve managed to come across and which goes something like this – as the powdery texture means lots of sharpening if you tend to use pencils heavily this might not be on the dressing table too long …. so be warned !!
If you still fancy picking one up you’ll find them in Boots for €11.25.

Cherry and Chocolate make-up look

January 24th, 2011
This month on L’Onglex it seems the calorie, or in our case lack of it, is king !
Like probably nearly everyone else we are rather predictably trying to mitigate some of the worst of our excesses from the festive season and this has made for pretty miserable lunchtimes in these parts.
For people who fill the gossip of our working day with questions relating to beauty or cake the month of January is a tough one for us and anything that get us through the month is more than welcome.
With anything resembling talk of gâteau being strictly off menu and likely to send us into a spiral of misery we managed to find the following video which allows us to drool without getting too grumpy …. it’s Lisa Eldridge // http://www.lisaeldridge.com/// with a Chocolate and Berry themed make-up look.

80s Bright Yellow with defined crease tutorial.
Add a touch of mac to a touch of primer, a healthy dose of yellow shadow to a rather nice smudged charcoal and what do you get ?
In L’Onglex’s case a mess. But if you’re the magnificent Pixiwoo and you happen to be rather a deft hand at all things make-up then the end result is some fabulous 80’s inspired eye colouring.
Not only is it brilliantly reminiscent of Grace Jones in her prime but the more we dig around for this seasons on trend eye shades the more yellow seems to be mentioned. Having missed it completely in the first instance we’re now thinking of popping out to do some serious scouring for similar shades.
Finally, although we’ve been posting loads of videos of late we’ve never really gotten round to featuring anything from the fantastic folks at Pixiwoo http://pixiwoo.blogspot.com/. Having now watched this a couple of times we love the look and will be posting a lot more on the subject.

VIDEO: Gravy …. perfect for New Year

January 6th, 2011
Who wants wavy hair .. we do !
Having been dolled to the nines of late L’Onglex has been contemplating something a little more relaxed by way of styling.
Enter Luke Hersheson with a fabulous video made for ELLEUK (http://www.elleuk.com/) that we think is a perfect for post season hair.
Having watched this and done the twist thing with the curlers we can definitely say we love the effect, but whether we’ll be wearing this with anything other than our Onesies remains to be seen.

Having been dolled to the nines of late L’Onglex has been contemplating something a little more relaxed by way of styling. Something natural, something demure and something we can twist about and put in our mouths.

After some trawling we would like to recommend Luke Hersheson with a fabulous video made for ELLEUK that we think is a perfect for post party season hair.

Having watched this and done the twist thing with the curlers we can definitely say we love the effect, but whether we’ll be wearing this with anything other than our Onesies remains to be seen.

In case you’re stuck for a look tonight …

In case you’re stuck for a look tonight …
We found a new Lisa Eldridge video which not only manages to be a perfect look for the party season but also has some rather nice tips on how we can get metallics to shine like they should, stay where they are put and not drift everywhere after a few drinks.
As L’Onglex has always found shiny glittery sparkly beauty a bit difficult we have to say we’re loving this latest video. As if the ever brilliant Lisa Eldridge weren’t providing us with enough pointers there are also a few tips at the end of the video on the subject of how to make a statement with metallic make-up without overdoing the whole thing … happy new year one and all !

Video: Nail Marbling by OPI

Video: Nail Marbling by OPI
Armed with nothing more than a selection of fabulous OPI polishes, a toothpick and a nicely improvised use for some Scotch Tape we are proud to bring you a rather snazzy nail tutorial from OPI on the subject of Marbling.
Having seen this done out and about we were under the impression it’s all a bit fancy and fiddly and that you needed the expert attentions of a trained nail art technician but as it turns out anyone with a bowl of water and half an hour can get the fabulous effect.
Having watched the video and decided even L’Onglex’s shaky hands could manage it we’d also like to say a big thanks to Rachel Lawlor who very kindly gave us the heads up on this via twitter.

For anyone still wearing halloween

November 1st, 2010
The other day it occurred to L’Onglex that whilst we’ve plenty to say about the various degrees of success we may have when it comes putting the stuff on we’ve so far got very little to say on the subject of taking it off.
As of the time of writing L’Onglex has developed a trusted technique  for taking off the slap I am sure many of you will be familiar with. The simple method is divided into two stages and goes something like this …
Stage 1 – Rub face with the first thing that comes to hand
Stage 2 – Anything not rubbed in stage 1 can be left the pillowcases
Whilst I thought this approach had worked out pretty well so far trying to get rid of my Halloween face has made think their may be better apparently this is not the best technique and whilst I’m loathe to change my ways the ever brilliant Lisa Eldridge has a video guide which has made me see the error of my ways ….

As of the time of writing L’Onglex has developed a trusted technique  for taking off slap which I am sure many of you will be familiar with. This simple method was devised by myself and is roughly divided into two stages which go something like this …

Stage 1 – Rub face with the first thing that comes to hand

Stage 2 – Anything not rubbed off in stage 1 can be left to the pillowcases

Whilst I thought this approach had worked out pretty well so far trying to get rid of my Halloween face has made think their may be better way to go about the whole business. Whilst I’m loathe to change the error of my ways the ever brilliant Lisa Eldridge has a video guide which is pretty convincing ….
