Santa CLAWS is coming to town …

December 21st, 2010
Santa CLAWS is coming to town ….
Just three days to go and all at L’Onglex are getting ready for the imminent arrival of the big man in red and his stocking full of goodies.
Aside from a bag mostly brimming with chocolate we are also hoping for another set of the above party falsies from none other than Julien MacDonald.
Thinking that our chances of getting these anywhere near our nails after three  Christmas cocktails were slim to none we must admit that we weren’t too keen when we first saw them.
Having now discovered they stick on in a jiffy we’ve been flashing these around and we have to say we’re quite impressed with the overall effect.
In the unlikely event Santa doesn’t bring you a set you can get them in Debenhams for €8 – available in Plain & Gold, Gold & Black, black Zig-Zag and Grey Stud we think they’re perfect for the party season.

Things we loved this week: Rituals cuticle repair pens

December 2nd, 2010
Regular readers of the L’Onglex blog will know doubt be aware that some time last week we ran a recipe for a home made cuticle repair remedy.
Now, as good ( and cheap ) as said remedy worked we have been on the lookout for more convenient alternatives than what is essentially a bowl of lemon and curdled milk.
It’s not that we happen to be squeemish or any such nonsense but to be fair there are only so many places one can take a bowl of curdled milk and not be stared at by the general public.
Now, as good as the homemade solution was we figured it was time to test something a little less eccentric and a touch more convenient. So, please stand up and take a congratulatory L’Onglex Blog bow if you just happen to be reading this and you just happen to be in any way connected to Rituals.
Paced with vitamins A, E and jojoba oil the Rituals Cuticle Pen formula has been working a treat at keeping our cuticles smooth, soft and in tip-top condition and whilst you wouldn’t exactly wear the stuff as perfume it does smell far better than lemon and milk.
As this  the pen applicator means we can top up when ever we need to ( which at the moment is often ) we’re delighted with our find.

Nail quills from Illamasqua

November 19th, 2010

illamasqua_quills

Every once in a while L’Onglex has the pleasure of discovering something weird and wonderful.

Of late we have found naked cycling, naked yoga, a snake massage and a robot from Japan that washes your hair for you. More often than not we’d never actually dream of having anything to do with these products and the weird and wonderful is for the most part a diversion …. until now.

Yup, just this very afternoon we came across these signature ‘nail quills’ designed by Mike Pocock for Illamasqua and we must say we’re quite impressed. Priced at around €40 and coming in individual box sets the nails are worn on the thumbs and although nails don’t really do anything anyway we are quite intrigued as to what they do and are currently questioning the wheres and whys of how you might use them.

At the moment L’Onglex has no idea what they’re made of or how long they last for but as pretty much everything that comes from Illamasqua is pretty much indestructible you can bet these limited edition matte black talons will be pretty well made.

Having thought they looked great, then plain weird, then great again we can’t seem to be able to make up our minds on whether we would actually hand over the money to buy a pair. If they are indeed quills and you can actually write with them we figure we might just grab a pair if only to really scare the bank manager next time we sign for a cheque.

Video: Nail Marbling by OPI
Armed with nothing more than a selection of fabulous OPI polishes, a toothpick and a nicely improvised use for some Scotch Tape we are proud to bring you a rather snazzy nail tutorial from OPI on the subject of Marbling.
Having seen this done out and about we were under the impression it’s all a bit fancy and fiddly and that you needed the expert attentions of a trained nail art technician but as it turns out anyone with a bowl of water and half an hour can get the fabulous effect.
Having watched the video and decided even L’Onglex’s shaky hands could manage it we’d also like to say a big thanks to Rachel Lawlor who very kindly gave us the heads up on this via twitter.

Yay for sticky nails

October 20th, 2010
If you visit these pages on a regular basis you’ll know how pleased we were with our Minx nails that we had done in September. Obviously being the sort of people we are it goes without saying we we are still rather impressed at how good the groovy prints made our nails look and if we had the money we’d probably be in there every week laminating our talons with whatever design takes our particular fancy.
As good as the speedy application and groovy print was the €35 price tag is a bit hefty and whilst we don’t want to be sticks in the mud there is a point at which even our beauty budget folds …. or so we thought !
This morning the nail gods answered our prayers when we were sent a pack of nail stickers from none other than budget beauty gurus Essence. Available in all the colours of the rainbow these are the DIY version of our beloved minx’s and at a purse friendly €2.49 per set we don’t think they’ll be on the stands for too long!
As we only have a photo to go from at the moment we at L”onglex can only guess at their greatness but rest assured dear readers we will be sticking them on as soon as we get the time and will of course dot the i’s and cross the t’s when it comes to pictures.
In the meantime, if anyone has tried these we’d love to hear your thoughts !

This seasons nail trends …

September 30th, 2010
Its been some time since we caught up with the comings and goings of Amy Dillon Makeupandbeauty.ie ( http://makeupandbeauty.ie )so we thought we’d pop in her latest posting on this Autumns nail trends.
Nudes, taupe shades and a rather nifty line in purples seem to be on everyones nails this season and although it’s probably none of our business L’Onglex is rather dismayed at the fact that Amy seems to able to get hold of Catrice’s Almost Black and we can’t get any for love nor money !

swatches are back

September 15th, 2010
If you come here often you might remember once upon a time the L’Onglex Blog would contain regular polish swatches containing the good, bad and in some cases just indecent shades that we happened to stumble on during our travels.
Having stripped our nails three times a week for months things got out of hand and since our nails had gone down hill we thought we’d give our paws a rest for a while and let things calm down.
Having now peeled away the last of the minx strips and picked up a whole bunch of new colours to try we can now reveal in all it’s glory one of this seasons new rimmel shades which goes by the name of Beige Babe. The more observant amongst you will no doubt have noticed that the colour has more than a striking resemblance to Chanel’s Particulaire and now that our bottle of has finally run-out we’re delighted with the new shade.
More swatches coming soon.

Minx’s on L’Onglex’s pink’s

August 31st, 2010
Minxs on our pinks
When it comes to our pinkies polish is usually L’Onglex’s adornment of choice but to mix things up a little we decided to go and get minxed !
No, for those of you who skim read that did not involve a few too many cocktails but does in fact refer to the rather colourful stickers which have been glued to our pinkies this very afternoon and even if we do say so ourselves we are enjoying the effect.
After much humming and haaing we finally decided not to unleash our inner Gaga and rather than the gold version we grabbed a set in the rather colourful design pictured. At €35 for a set from Naildressers Salon we figured they’re not exactly cheap but we are rather impressed at how neat the whole thing looks.
As they’re also really thin we must say we prefer the overall profile to gels and for the next few days we think their keepers … any thoughts ??

L’Onglex loves these tips

August 16th, 2010
Although we’ve been a little short on the uptake nail art is currently back with a bang and we’re predicting something of a renaissance on this trend.
We are loving these tips which are from London’s Cobella salon and as L’Onglex is predicting something of a revival for fancy nails next year we’ll probably be seeing something very similar to these like, er, everywhere.
Whether leopard print acrylics make it for this season remains to be seen but with everything having gone a bit eighties over the last couple of years it wouldn’t surprise us.
If you’re thinking of getting these done our advice is to book early. Even Madonna’s daughter Lourdes couldn’t get a London appointment as the salon is booked about two months in advance.

L’Onglex has been unfaithful

July 28th, 2010
A few weeks ago we brought you news of the Urban Decay Summer of Love Nail lacquar collection….oh how we oooed and how we aahhhed and we took pictures of the pretty case, and after it was all over we promised to take the colours we had and cherish and love them forever more. We also promised to swatch the rest of the collection over the coming weeks…..but sadly we got distracted.
We got distracted because newer, shinier products kept landing at L’Onglex Towers and despite our solemn vows the Summer of Love and all the things the collection once promised were simply words that floated on the wind. All was forgotten ….. until now !
Yesterday we re-discovered it nestled under our testing pile and the realisation dawned on us that we had forgotten to bring these colours to the blog and that L’Onglex had in fact been acting like a child with too many toys. Remembering our promise for a summer of love the crushing realisation that we had indeed been unfaithful to a nail polish colour hit us like a ton of bricks and we were out with the brightest of them as soon as we had a spare minute !
The shade above and to the left on the L’Onglex pinkies is indeed an acid pink that goes by the name of Woodstock. By way of asking for forgiveness we have vowed to wear this colour at CastlePalooza this weekend. L’Onglex is chastened !
