Katy Perry to launch nail polish line

Katy Perry to launch nail polish line
Yup. As collaborations go it was only a matter of time before the nail art diva launched her own collection and news reaches the L’Onglex beauty desk that she has done just that !
Launched as a collaboration with OPI the four shades include – Teenage Dream (pink glitter), Not Like the Movies ( silver ), Last Friday Night ( blue glitter) and The One That Got Away (deep berry). Also included in the collection is a new cracked topcoat that creates a glazed pattern when applied over dry polish.
Famed for her wacky dress sense and her abilities to tame even the most dedicated lothario Katy often uses red carpet events to show off her crazy nail designs and as well as a host of weird colours, lace overlays and general mayhem she once used her nails as a symbol of affection and devotion for the her beau. Quite why OPI hasn’t launched a range based on her famous Russell Brand tribute nails is anyones guess !!!

Video: Nail Marbling by OPI
Armed with nothing more than a selection of fabulous OPI polishes, a toothpick and a nicely improvised use for some Scotch Tape we are proud to bring you a rather snazzy nail tutorial from OPI on the subject of Marbling.
Having seen this done out and about we were under the impression it’s all a bit fancy and fiddly and that you needed the expert attentions of a trained nail art technician but as it turns out anyone with a bowl of water and half an hour can get the fabulous effect.
Having watched the video and decided even L’Onglex’s shaky hands could manage it we’d also like to say a big thanks to Rachel Lawlor who very kindly gave us the heads up on this via twitter.

OPI’s Shimmery Chic

October 15th, 2010
It’s been a while since we got our pinkies out for you here on the L’Onglex blog so when we had our talons tidied last week we thought it would be the perfect time to show off our perfectly polished pinkies.
Given the current financial woes L’Onglex has found that our trips to the salon for manicures have become few and far between. Having not really treated my poor paws for ages all was going perfectly well until the bit where it’s time to choose what to get.
I mean, in the old days when everyone in Ireland was a millionaire choosing the final coats on a manicure didn’t seem to matter very much. I mean, you could always just get something else next week if things didn’t go to plan.
Things being the way they are and knowing that it will probably be ages before we get done again the final coat became like a life or death type conundrum. Where would L’Onglex be going ? Should we get a coat that’s best for day or evening ? Should we just get something really plain so as not to draw attention to the fact we spent our pay cheque on a mani etc ?
In the end L’Onglex said ’sod it’ and whilst we intend to embrace the current trend for chipped nails sometime in the near future we went with the brown and gold hues of OPI’s Shimmery Chic and we are very glad we did.
Subtle enough for the office and sparkly enough for after work drinks we think this is the perfect shade for 9-5 – more swatches coming soon !

OPI has gone a bit Heidi

June 21st, 2010
It seems not a solitary day should pass at L’Onglex Towers without us being the lucky recipients of some exciting nail news.
Our latest scoop comes to us from OPI who in recent days have announced details of their new collection for AW10.
Yup, it seems on the beauty front summer is quickly passing and OPI have decided that the hottest nail trends for AW10 are going to have a decidedly Swiss flavour.
The new shades take inspiration from the dramatic scenery and mountainous terrain of Switzerland and thankfully not from the fact that Swiss folk are a bit weird and don’t let you flush the toilet after 10pm at night !
The collection features some gorgeous blues and reds but quickly rising to the top of the L’Onglex wish-list are the electric blue hues of Ski Teal.
The collection will be hitting stores in September and assuming we’re not too busy stealing bread rolls for a blind grandmother we will of course endeavour to bring you some pics when we get them !

OPI Hot and Spicy

June 14th, 2010
Fresh from this summers OPI Hong Kong Collection we bring for your inspection Hot and Spicy, the latest colour to have us at L’Onglex wishing we were heading for more sunny climes.
As with all things OPI application is a synch and the colour isn’t too overpowering. Frankly, I’m not sure the these pics of my paws really do the colour any justice and it will really suit those of you who just so happen to be a tad more bronzed than I.
Since I spend my lunchtime salivating in the aisles of Body Shop and my evenings making homemade make-up I’m not sure I’ll be getting the Tan to go with this anytime soon.
We figure if OPI ever bring out a colour called ‘Pasty and Make-Up Obsessed’ it might be the one for us … we’re keeping our eyes peeled !

You cut me deep, Shrek. You cut me real deep just now!

June 10th, 2010
When it comes to nail polish we like a good movie collaboration as much as the next girl so when we came across OPI’s tribute to Shrek Forever After we just had to share. To celebrate the launch of the the movie OPi have launched six Ogre inspired shades to have your nails in tip top shape whether your fighting dragons or relaxing in a mud bath.
Blues, greens and purples are the order of the day and our pick of the pack is the light blue tones of ‘what’s with the cattitude’. Other shade names in the collection include Funkey Dunkey,Rumple’s Wiggin’ and Who the Shrek are You. Keep an eye out for them in your local salon.

L’Onglex loves lucky lavender

June 2nd, 2010
Quite literally out of the blue look what we at L’Onglex got.
Having heard of our quest to try every shade of every colour someone must have let on to the folks at OPI that this summer we at L’Onglex are busily dipping our digits in anything that might resemble a to-die-for summer shade !
Part of OPI’s Hong Kong Collection for SS10, the above colour was achieved with two coats of luscious lavender and given we were running out of colours to try we must admit the donation to our cause was most fortunate. So fortunate in fact that from now on L’Onglex are calling this particular shade lucky lavender which will come as a welcome change from our lucky knickers …. don’t laugh … we’ve all got them.

Alice through the looking glass

February 22nd, 2010

It seems not a week goes by without another designer collaboration hitting the shelves.

There was Jimmy Choo for H&M, Sonia Reykiel for H&M, Louise Goldin for top shop and just when you thought it couldn’t get any more collaborative in comes OPI with a series of themed nail colours for Tim Burtons Alice in Wonderland.

The colours I’m not so sure about, but if you buy your polish on the strength of the names alone the eccentrically named Absolutely Alice, Mad as a Hatter, Off With Her Red and Thanks So Muchness should do you well enough. Certainly not for the feint hearted but should be fun enough when the time comes.

In the event OPI haven’t filled your penchant for all things Alice related Urban Decay have tipped a rather eccentric felt brimmed top hat in the direction of all things Wonderland with The Alice in Wonderland book of shadows. The 16 eyeshadow strong palate includes 16 of UD’s best selling eyeshadows renamed with topsy turvey names such as White Rabbit, Jabberwocky and Oraculum.

I’ll just stick to the looking glass.
