What would Mrs Doyle make of this ?

March 3rd, 2011
If there is one thing we are guilty of at L’Onglex it’s taking a little too long over our tea breaks ….. what with all the different tea options to choose from ( green, ginger or just good old Barrys ) combined with our fondness for chocolate biscuits it’s become something of a daily ritual. Not being the sort to be content with having something and just enjoying it you can imagine our delight at the discovery of the latest Jo Malone fragrance which celebrates all things tea !
The collection features five miniature fragrances all designed around the ritual of tea making. Assam and Grapefruit, Earl Grey and Cucumber and Fresh Mint Leaf are the three main fragrances but there are also accent scents of Sweet Milk and Sweet Lemon that can be added depending to your particular tea tastes.
Our current favorite combination is Assam & Grapefruit with Sweet Milk but we’re the fickle sort so we’ll probably keep chopping and changing for a little while yet. Our only gripe with the collection is that at €42 for 30ml the price tag could well turn our weakness for all things Malone into quite an expensive cuppa !
In other news Jo herself is launching her own line of perfumes that will be separate from the Jo Malone brand that she sold to Estee Lauder in 1999. We haven’t tried any yet but if your a bit of an addict you can get a sneak peek on the link below ….

Our favourite Valentines gift …..

February 3rd, 2011
With the dismal month fast becoming a distant memory L’Onglex have been getting ready for the first celebration of the new year. Yup, valentines is upon us and whilst we’re not holding out for roses on the bed or a 24ct diamond we are expecting a bottle of wine and some scented candles at the very least !
Being as I am something of a sceptic I dislike the commercialism of the whole day and since I’m thinking I’ll be lucky to get a bottle of cheap celebrity perfume or the ubiquitous ‘garage flowers’ maybe that’s just as well. But since we’re on the the subject, what I should really demand as my present of choice is a flight to London and a ride in the above taxi.
Whilst I accept a Hackney carriage might not normally sweep me off my feet, these Marc Jacobs inspired cabs are a different proposition entirely. Filled with romantic goodies and coming in varieties of both Daisy and Lolo, the cabs will be ferrying couples round London and Manchester on the 14th of February. Naturally, in what we think is a brilliantly considered gesture of romance, all trips in the cabs will be free of charge !

Christmas party picks

Our Christmas Party Picks
With Christmas nearly upon us we figured we’d chuck out all that natural, subtle stuff and head out for some glitzy goodies.
Obviously it goes without saying that L’Onglex thinks that looking like an overdone Christmas tree is a bad thing at this time of year, but on the other hand being the proverbial wallflower isn’t the best way to handle the party season. With this in mind we’ve put together a few to look out for if you are of a mind to expand the Christmas beauty bag.
First on our party wish list is Barocco Shimmer Powder by Clarins. Perfect for highlighting cheeks and decolletage these are basically lightweight nuggets that come in a rather festive pot and leave just the right amount of sparkle where you need it. Although these are rather nice ( more bronzy than gold ), go easy on the powder as less is definitely more ! powder on the puff to give a subtle sheen where you need it most.
Those of you who need a touch of seductive pout rather than the full Pete Burns will no doubt be interested in the delights of Model Co’s Lip Plumper. Bag friendly and packed with plumping ingredients like marine collagen and hyaluronic acid, this comes as a gloss that also smoothes lips down as well as plumping them up.
As much as we love subtle polishes now and again what’s really needed is a touch of drama. Enter Chanel’s Rouge Fatal, a stunning chip free holly nail polish with a super glossy finish. Obviously we could spend ages describing the subtle nuances of colouring and shade, but we’ll spare you the bother of reading our superlatives and finish the Chanel subject with the following statement …. wear this because it’s not too tarty !
Finally the fragrance. If you were to read the brochure you might think that paying €80 big ones to cover yourself in the smells of pomegranate, spiced woods and frankincense would make you smell a bit like an overdone nativity display …. it doesn’t. If there is a winter scent out there that is any more perfect than Pomegranate Noir by Jo Malone please inform L’Onglex forthwith. We love this scent.

Lady Gaga to launch fragrance

November 17th, 2010
Newflash – Lady Gaga to launch perfume
When it comes to celebrity scents it seems that time waits for no man.
Not content with selling 13 million albums, 52 million singles and picking up the most nominations in the history of the MTV awards it seems that Lady Gaga has enough spare time on her hands to devise her very own brand of perfume.
News reaches the L’Onglex beauty desk that the as yet to be named scent is due to launch in Spring 2012 and is to be an extension of her combined talent for music, video, fashion, art modesty and selling us things we don’t really need.
Joining a long list of celebrity luminaries like Alex Curran ( Alex ) and Cliff Richard ( Devil Woman ) to have launched their own perfume L’Onglex has no idea of how this one will actually smell or how much she was paid but we figure that as long as the aroma is nothing like that meat dress we might just be dipping into the piggybank to buy a bottle !

peek-a-choo

November 2nd, 2010
Reports flying round the blogosphere that none other than Jimmy Choo is to release a perfume have finally proved to be true.
Although we heard the rumour some time ago the fantastically fabulous shoemaker had remained rather tight lipped about the launch and sneak peeks ( never mind sneak smells ) of the new Choo fragrance have been few and far between.
Set for release from selected Jimmy Choo boutiques on January 31st 2011 L’Onglex’s sources tell us that the scent is rich, woody and sensual rather than floral or feminine.
As we’ve managed to get a picture ( but not the bottle !) we aren’t quite sure how it all pans out just yet and we although we are quite upset at not being able to buy a bottle for Christmas we are at least pleased that the hangover that is January will at least have some light at the end of the tunnel.
L’Onglex predicts H&M style queues around the block for this one, especially as the scent is more Sam than Charlotte !

Beyonce’s bootylicious new scent

July 23rd, 2010

beyonce_perfume_ring

This week L’Onglex has been busy on the perfume front. Not only did we try the gorgeous new Jo Malone but quite by chance we’ve also been given the once in a lifetime opportunity to try on Beyonce’s Ring.

If your wondering what were on about we do of course refer to the new fragrance ring endorsed by said singer which as you can see from the above picture is a not very discreet shade of red and works by flipping the top to reveal a solid version of the Heat perfume which you can then dab where you will.

Quite where we stand on the subject of celebrity scent we are not so sure. Is it OK or are they a bit chavvy ….. do celebrities actually wear their own perfume ranges and if they do develop the fragrance like they always claim, doesn’t that get in the way of making music ?

Actually, come to think about it, L’Onglex is hoping the Victoria Beckham line proves to be a raging success !

It’s all gone pear shaped at L’Onglex HQ

July 21st, 2010
With the summer sales now over and autumn just around the corner (yikes) we at L’Onglex are busy poking, prodding and road testing the new collections for AW10.
Obviously, being the slaves to beauty we are we love testing out the new make-up but fast becoming our favourite treat for autumn is getting our hands on the new season perfume collections. As we’ve developed an unhealthy addiction to all things scented we were of course delighted to be given a sneak peek at the new English Pear and Fressia cologne from Jo Malone which came with a hand written note telling us to ‘embrace the pear.’
Whilst our eyes feasted on the packaging and our noses basked in the gorgeous scents of pear, patchouli, amber and white musk embracing the pear is what we at L’Onglex have duly done and we are in awe at those clever blenders from Jo Malone who have managed once again to have found there way to the top of the L’Onglex wishlist.
Since this won’t be hitting counters until September 1st and we only managed to get a small bottle we’ll be going easy on the spritz until we can stock up again come the new season. This one we like !

Our Favorite Summer Scents!

May 9th, 2010

Picture 7

With summer just around the corner, we at L’onglex towers thought it was high time we took ourselves on a field trip of our favorite beauty halls to sniff out what’s new for summer fragrance.
Now we’re the first to admit that we often find ourselves getting a little clingy when it comes to saying goodbye to our favorite heavy winter fragrances but once we spritzed our way around the beauty counters we’re pleased to say we found plenty fragrances hitting the right summer notes.
Possible one of the sweetest of the bunch is summer favorite Bronze goddess by Estee Laurder. Now in it’s third year the scent with top notes of coconut milk, sandalwood and vanilla is nothing new but the gorgeous new bottle certainly is. Redesigned with beachy flecks of gold, forgive us for being superficial when we say the beautiful bronzed bottle would be the toast of our dressing table during the summer months!
If your after something a little fresher, a quick trip to the Jo Malone counter may grant all your wishes. Malone’s newest scent of Lotus Blossom & Water Lily  has top notes of grapefruit, bergamot and mandarinis  and is perfectly light and refreshing for the summer months. If (like us) your a bit of Jo Malone groupie you’ll definitely want this daytime fragrance for your collection.
The final fragrance hitting all our buttons is the latest offering from Chanel. Last Month Chanel re-launched their popular Chance fragrance with a summer twist of grapefruit and quince resulting in a fruity-floral fragrance that’s as perfect for day as  it is for night!
We’ve been stocking up on samples of all three while we make up our mind..after all what smells good in store may not smell so sweet after a couple of hours!
Have you chosen your summer scent yet – tell all in the comments!

With summer just around the corner, we at L’onglex towers thought it was high time we took ourselves off on a field-trip to the cooling delights of our favorite beauty halls. Yes, that’s right, we’ve been sniffing around for a  new for summer fragrance !

Now, I’m probably the first to admit that I always find myself getting a little clingy when it comes to saying goodbye to my favourite winter fragrance but on the plus side any excuse for a trip around the beauty aisles is good enough for me. Having spritzed our way round the beauty counters we can now bring you a few summer choices.

Possibly one of the sweetest of the bunch is summer favourite Bronze Goddess by Estee Lauder. Now in it’s third year the scent, with top notes of coconut milk, sandalwood and vanilla is nothing new, except for the fact it has a divine new bottle.

Redesigned with beachy flecks of goldy goodness you’ll forgive us for being a bit superficial when we say the beautiful bronzed bottle would be the toast of our dressing table. Yes we like the scent, we like the scent a lot,  but just looking at the bottle makes us want to go on our holidays …… like now !

The final fragrance hitting all the right notes is the latest offering from Chanel  - Chance Eau Tendre. Last Month Chanel re-launched their popular Chance fragrance with a summer twist of grapefruit and quince resulting in a fruity-floral fragrance that’s as perfect for day as  it is for night. I translate this to mean we get to wear it twice a day !

As much as we’d like to we’re yet to buy the lot. We at L’Onglex have stocked up on samples for the simple reason that what tends to smell sweet at the counter tends to fade in the sun a bit and we are perfectly open to more suggestions before we spend our hard earned cents !

Any suggestions for summer scents – all comments welcome !
