You can say what you will about the cold damp air and the long dark evenings but at least we get a raft of new products to try. Blowing into L’onglex Towers on a wind of irrational Body Shop addiction comes Chestnut Face and Cheek Powder which we must say isn’t too bad.

If you’re are a beauty junky who likes to multi task, the compact combines four pressed powders of gold, brown, bronze and copper that work just as well on eyes as they do on face.

On the powder front this is quite soft so if you tend to press heavy this won’t last forever but if you’re the sort to dip in and out or flit about with compacts we thinks this might be a decent staging post between winter wear and your summer bronzer – this we love !

Ideal for beauty junkies who like their products to multi task, the compact combines four pressed powders of gold, brown, bronze and copper that are just as perfect for eyes as they are for face.
Super soft with a light shimmer finish the compact is the perfect replacement for your summer bronzer and will have you dreaming of crisp country walks to crush the leaves in no time! – this we love!

L’Onglex loves lemon lips

As those of you who frequent these pages will no doubt by now be aware, L’Onglex has something of an unhealthy obsession with all things Body Shop.

Having taken our affections and squeezed us of our pay cheques it’s gotten to the point where we have to say we can take no more and just when we think we’re safe to go back outside we go and find something else that we simply can’t do without.

The most recent ‘can’t do without’ is the lip smackingly lemony lip balm which is not only chock full of sweet tasting lemon seed but also comes with the hydrating benefits of organic beeswax. How this found us we don’t know but as there is currently no room in the cupboard thanks to the Body Butter, we are starting to worry.

It’s not simply the trying and wearing that brings problems. Having had little else on our lips of late we’ve also been gabbing on about it to anyone patient enough to listen. Obviously this is good news for the Body Shop, but it’s bad news for us.

In the unlikely case that someone from the Body Shop is reading this, can we kindly request you take out some kind of restraining order against us as our obsessions are starting to get the better of us.

Body Shop Junkies beware ….

Body Shop Junkies beware ….
We think it’s been at least two weeks since we were last enticed by the delights of The Body Shop which is something of a record. As this time of year is a tad tricky for those of us with sensitive skin we’ve been up and down the aisles and have managed to get our hands on the latest range with Aloe Vera. As we’re big fans of Aloe Vera ( we use it in L’Onglex for nail repair ) we thought we might give it a go and figured it might just help our parched skin along with some repair.
Into the L’Onglex summer beauty bag goes the calming facial cleanser and the soothing night cream. Both of which have left my skin feeling pretty soft and moist after a few hours of being battered by the sun yesterday. As I keep forgetting to add an SPF to my routine I have vowed to try harder but for the moment these were perfect for skin repair and getting the balance back. As both products are quite rich they do sink into skin quite nicely and the moisturiser gave my dry bits a gentle but intense dose of much needed moisture.
whilst the cleanser and the night cream were good our pick of the latest Body Shop bunch must be the Protective Restoring Mask. Not only does this give plenty by way of soothing Aloe Vera but also comes with a very healthy dose of Sesame Oil.
If your skin is a bit dry I can seriously recommend oil based treatments and if you haven’t used Sesame Oil before it’s great at locking moisture below the surface where the skin tends to need moisture the most. Perfect for calming those delicate, dry patches you’re trying to calm inflamed or delicate skin this will work perfectly as the warmer days wear on.

Under the sea!

If your plans of spending the summer lying on a tropical beach and swimming in the clear blue sea  haven’t quite materialised you may find some solace in knowing that you don’t need to be at the beach to enjoy all the beauty benefits the sea has to offer.
Beauty products from the sea have always been popular, Queen Cleopatra is reported to have enjoyed bathing in the dead sea,  J-Lo is known to slather herself from head to toe in Cream De La Mer and Madonna has become obsessed with a line of anti-aging skin care products containing mud from the dead sea.
But just because the treatments are in A-List demand doesn’t mean they have to be expensive – simply bathing in sea water has it’s benefits – sea water increases collagen levels in the skin, allowing it to fill out , reducing the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines and improving the skins elasticity.
If you’re a fan of exfoliators the salt found in the dead sea which is most commonly found in scrubs like Aldi’s Dead sea salt scrub (€3.99) contains very high levels of magnesium which is great for the metabolism of skin cells as well as an effective anti-allergen meaning it’s should work a treat if you suffer from sensitive skin
If your skin needs nourishing, the seaweed which is often found in marine based creams like cult product Creme De la Mer  contains antioxidants Algal polyphenols and Carotenoids as well as  a huge amount of skin nourishing goodies like  enzymes, nucleic acids, amino acids, minerals, trace elements, and A, B, C, D, E, and K vitamin complexes making it an anti aging power house! Now we can see why J-lo’s a fan.
I’ve been dipping my fingers into The Body Shops Seaweed Mattifying Day Cream all week and I must say my skin has reaped the benefits.  As a dry skin sufferer I tend to go for moisturisers on the rich side for ultimate hydration and this pot of magic hit the nail on the head leaving me more than satisfied that there is nothing fishy about the beauty benefits of products from the sea!

If your plans of spending the summer lying on a tropical beach and swimming in the clear blue sea  haven’t quite materialised you may find some solace in knowing that you don’t need to be at the beach to enjoy all the beauty benefits the sea has to offer.

Beauty products from the sea have always been popular –  any of you landlubbers may wish to take note that Queen Cleopatra is reported to have travelled for days just to be able to enjoy bathing in the Dead Sea.

More recent celebrity seafarers include J-Lo, who is known to slather herself from head to toe in the luxurious delights of Creme De La Mer and Madonna has recently become obsessed with a line of anti-aging skin care products containing a unique formula of algae rich sea mud.

Just because the treatments are in A-List demand doesn’t mean they have to be expensive. Simply bathing in sea water has it’s benefits as it increases collagen levels in the skin. A quick dip under the pier will  allow your skin to fill out and help reduce the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines. Seawater also helps increase the skins elasticity.

A product we’re quite fond of here at L’Onglex Towers is Aldi’s Dead Sea Salt Scrub. As well as being quite good as an exfoliator the formula also contains high levels of magnesium which is great for keeping up your skins metabolism. By improving the rate at which your skin breaks down free-radicals and stimulating the growth of new cells the Dead Sea Salt Scrub is quite a good product for the price, and as it is also an anti-allergen, it’s pretty good for those delicate creatures amongst you.

Water and salt are one thing, but if your skin really needs a bit of nourishing then seaweed could be for you. When it comes to skin food seaweed is king. An anti-aging powerhouse, you can find it in luxury products like Creme De La Mer but many marine based creams are also high in the goodies.

Whilst not the complete list, you won’t be doing yourself a bad turn with a quick dip. Antioxidants, Algal polyphenols and Carotenoids are found in seaweed as well as  a huge amount of skin nourishing goodies like  enzymes, nucleic acids, amino acids, minerals, and vitamins A, B, C, D, E. There’s also racks of K vitamin complexes. Now we can see why J-lo’s a fan.

I’ve been dipping my fingers into The Body Shops Seaweed Mattifying Day Cream all week and as someone who suffers from dry skin I tend to go for moisturisers on the rich side for ultimate hydration. This is pretty much a catch of the day for me and whilst I’m not sure about all the claims everyone says the sea has to offer, there’s nothing fishy about this particular product!

Is there a cure for Body Shop addiction ?

April 13th, 2010
Love is most definitely in the air at the body shop. I know this because I cannot seem to pass by the portable hand basin so strategically placed at the entrance …. “Come in”, it whispers “Lather your ghost white skin in our deliciously hydrating goodies”. Of course, I always do …. always !
This lunchtime, with the weather being as it was I swore blind I would spend my time in the sun, lunch today would be different. A sandwich on Stephens Green, a walk down the river, a chance to naturally end the milky white pallor in which I reside. Once again, being the cosmetics junkie I am, I didn’t even pause and think, In I went. Sad as I am, I couldn’t help swooning at some of the treats on offer.
Within three seconds of the lid being off I had bagged the Love etc fragrance which, coming as it does with that pear, neroli and bergamot smell I’m quickly begining to recognise on passing strangers. Then came the Body Butter, with all the moisturising delights of coco butter, soya oil and shea butter how could I refuse. The damage, which I could do without since this now happens so regularly, was about thirteen more notes than the price of decent a sandwich at M&S – but how could I refuse ?
Lunchtime, instead of being the half hour of spring delights I’d promised myself, became an excuse for me to sit in the store lathering up for an afternoon of utter dozing followed by a half hour of computer drooling followed by a half hour of actual work. In my waking moments I wished I had in fact been out in the sun – addiction is a curious affair.

Of course, I always do, but it has to stop.
